The Ritual I Follow to Make Every Weekday Just a Little More Fun

Every week is better when you have something to look forward to.

When I was a kid, my dad would pick us up a pizza every Wednesday night, which we'd eat while watching a movie. It was such a fun way to break up the week and since we didn't eat out (or order in) often—let alone away from the dining room table—it felt like such a treat. Those little moments helped define my childhood and are some of my favorite memories, so it's a mystery why it took G and me so long to establish little traditions of our own.

I've spoken before about how having an indulgent meal—or at least one you really love—planned for Monday evenings gives you something to look forward to at the start of the week. Whether we have G's baked wings, Pasta al Limone, or Chicken Parmesan, it's something that gets me excited even on my way to work in the morning. But the problem with a Monday "celebration" is that you then have four more days until Saturday without any other planned evenings to break up the week. And this is why G and I recently initiated Tuesdays as taco night in our house.

What's great is can be thrown together in minutes, feels festive, and can be enjoyed with or without margaritas (but I mean, come on...). Plus, it can easily accommodate guests, and makes for great leftovers. Meal planning is hard enough, so it's nice to have something built into the week that you don't have to think about. Most of our meals are served on one plate, but there's also something appealing about lots of little dishes filled with the best toppings—shredded cheese, cilantro, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, etc.—that we spread out on the counter. And while Taco Tuesdays isn't exactly revelatory, it's completely changed my outlook on what used to be my least favorite day of the week.

I'd love to know—do you have weekly traditions in your household? Here are a few of our team's favorites:

Leslie: Every Friday, I pick up Chinese food and beers and have our neighbors (who are also some of our best friends) over to play Settlers of Catan, a board game. Super nerdy? Absolutely. But it's also something I look forward to each week!
Kelly: Once a week (the day rotates because we're #busy), my boyfriend and I walk or run with our husky, (a.k.a. our office dog, Alexa), 1.5 miles from our house down to The Dudes Brewery on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. They have a very inviting outdoor section with big couches that Alexa likes to hop up on to make herself at home (luckily, we know the owners and they're cool with it) as well as a ton of beers, pizza, and wine to choose from. Heaven.
Caroline: I love, love, love Mexican food—chicken burrito bowls, v
erde enchiladas, breakfast tacos (my personal favorite!), chili rellenos, you name it! Every Tuesday, I celebrate 'Taco Tuesday' in some capacity, whether it's deluxe breakfast tacos (find my recipe on the Shop's Instagram here!), or grilled tequila-lime tilapia bowls with Spanish cauliflower rice. Taco Tuesday is also the perfect excuse to have friends over, since chips and guac are so much more fun when enjoyed with good company!
