It's no secret that Halloween's my favorite holiday, thanks to the winning combination of unlimited candy and scary movies. Now that Sloan's old enough to understand and take part in the celebrations, our Halloweens look a little different. In the past, we've invited friends over for a low-key evening with cocktails and some sort of a "serve yourself" dinner situation, and this October, I'm looking forward to having friends over to build Spooky Skewers while watching classic scary movies. It's not as time intensive (or messy!) as a pumpkin carving party and pairs nicely with a bottle of wine. Just set out a ton of candies (I opted for gummy spiders, candy corn, Dracula teeth, and my personal favorite, sour skulls), arrange them on a wooden board or nestled in cupcake wrappers, and provide some wooden kebab skewers.
While I wouldn't serve them to Trick-or-Treaters (the only thing creepier than being the house that serves "healthy snacks" instead of sugar is serving unwrapped candy to kids...), it's a fun activity to do while watching a horror movie and makes for cute party favors for your guests to take home.
