Like pink and purple and mid-length flared dresses, polka dots can easily veer from playful to childish, which is why I often avoid them altogether in favor of stripes, a safer, more streamlined bet. It took me a while to fully embrace them when they came back into vogue last year (as illustrated by a style breakdown and interview with my friend Anita), but this time around feels different, with more than a few options that feel fully grown-up:
