This dress came into my life the same way most accidental purchases do: I walked into a store to return something, then did a lap "just in case." In the back of my mind, I was looking for a dress to wear to a rehearsal dinner at a wedding I'm attending this weekend in Yosemite, and the moment I saw it, I knew it was perfect. Puffed sleeves, light and breathable fabric, flattering silhouette? Yes, yes, yes. I didn't even need to try it on before purchasing it, I was so confident I'd love it! (Note: This never happens. I'm hyper-selective about buying clothes. Usually, I try something on, then stalk it for about a month, search images of it styled, and then buy it.)
When I learned yesterday that the dress code for the rehearsal dinner is actually jeans and a t-shirt, I debated returning the dress, but instead threw it on for work and ran out the door. No sooner had I arrived "on set," a.k.a. Emily's house, did I receive compliments from Emily, Jess, and Kelly. Let me tell you, there is nothing that makes a girl feel better about her outfit than three very stylish women complimenting it—Jess even insisted on taking photos for our Weekday Wardrobe series on @shopcupcakesandcashmere before I'd walked into the house.
The dress is incredible for a few reasons: Not only did it transition perfectly from a busy workday, which included running a few errands for the shoot, to dinner at Antico, but it's also incredibly comfortable and made me feel cute all day long! It's not "cheap" by any means, but it is a fraction of the cost of most peasant dresses at $79.
For work yesterday, I paired it with my favorite gold hoops and black leather Birkenstocks (in 'narrow'), to tone down its femininity, but I'd happily wear it with these Steve Madden slides I just bought on sale at Nordstrom for $27 (!) - which I actually am still planning on wearing to the rehearsal dinner, with the top of this two-piece and these jeans!
