Our Favorite Outfits We Wore in May

A series that's motivating us (and maybe you!) to ditch the sweatpants and feel a bit more put together.

The cupcakes and cashmere team has committed to a new series highlighting our favorite outfits we wore the previous month. Save them, pin them, or scroll past them (if they're not your style) – we're also grateful for the excuse to change out of our endless cycle of sweatsuits.

Part of the culture in LA is to complain about the weather pretty much anytime it dips below 68° or reaches triple digits. But in an effort to break that cycle, I will say that we had a particularly beautiful spring, with cool mornings and mild afternoons that made it an absolute joy for which to dress. I lived in lightweight, long-sleeved dresses and this Ganni number is one of my favorite recent purchases. It's on major sale, cinches you in nicely, while still feeling breezy enough to wear into the warmer months and while I love how it looks with my chunky platform loafers, it'll be just as cute with a strappy sandal.

Dress: Ganni (on sale!)

Loafers: Reformation

There's a particular high I get from finding an affordable version of something I've had my eye on. I love this Ulla Johnson jacket and have been waiting to see if it would go on major sale (...even then, it would be an investment), then Target decided to make all my patchwork quilted jacket dreams come true. I built this outfit around the jacket because I had to wear it out the day it arrived on my doorstep. This blue version is also pretty fantastic if you're looking for something more neutral!

Quilted Jacket: Target

Bodysuit: Free People

Jeans: Vintage Levi's

Flats: Aquazzura

Sunglasses: Garrett Leight

I finally made my very first Dôen purchase, after YEARS of hearing Emily, Jess, and Leslie absolutely rave about it. Every once in a while they will do a big sale, and I splurged on this cardigan while it was 30% off. I have to say, I probably wouldn't have bought it if I hadn't been with Jess in LA and able to try it on in person. I'm very sensitive to wool, and this doesn't itch at all. Very happy! I wore this outfit to my boyfriend's birthday dinner this month at our favorite restaurant in Minneapolis, Sooki and Mimi.

I’m excited to start wearing my favorite spring and summer dresses now that it’s becoming consistently warm in San Diego. I don’t own too many dresses, but when I wear them I almost always pair them with my favorite pair of Adidas white sneakers for a more casual look.
