I have a hard time revisiting fashion trends that were less than flattering the first time around. My mom feels similarly, which explains her aversion to flowy, flowered dresses like the ones she rocked when she was a hippie. I was around when plaid was a thing in the '90s, though not savvy enough to incorporate it into my wardrobe (I stuck mainly to what I knew: oversized animal shirts, tied, over leggings). But now that plaid is popping up everywhere again, albeit in a slightly less grungy way, I'm on board 100%.
