For a long time, I was so anti-black suit because every time I put one on (which, to be honest, isn't often), it reminded me of the ill-fitted suits I wore to job interviews right after college. But after seeing them worn with an unexpected detail like a cool sneaker (as Caroline Issa often does), I decided to give them a second chance (with jeweled mules in my case). I love how a simple suit allows the shoes to shine—I splurged on this pair as a reward to myself after completing a recent project I'd been nervous about. I love all the criss-cross strapped mules this season, and the mismatched jewels on this pair are so special. For a final touch, I cinched my boxy blazer with  belt which made it feel current and different, and gave me the confidence I needed for a meeting on Melrose Place.
