How Leslie Transformed a Small Room Into an Inspiring Gym and Office

A sun-filled space for work and workouts.

The sun-filled room off of our bedroom is the smallest area in our house, but may be my favorite. As soon as we moved in, I began transforming it into a multipurpose space that inspires both my workdays and workouts.

To maximize the space, I planned every aspect out carefully in advance, outlining my plans in this post, with little details that make it super-useable. There's exactly enough room for me to place a yoga mat next to the bike, the tulip desk easily transitions into a board game table, and my computer is oriented so I always have a professional and well-lit Zoom background (the things you need to think about these days...).

In purchasing accessories and adding new furniture to the room, I tried to be as thoughtful as possible. The Lulu and Georgia dresser, which the brand graciously gifted me, holds my workout clothes as well as hair styling tools (I threaded the cords through the back, so I can pull the tools directly from the drawer), and a towel rack organizes my yoga accessories. I love that this meditation pillow compliments the pink paint color I selected and Grovemade's handmade wood desk accessories serve as a pretty work backdrop.

Because I'm a tactile person (I jot down every thought in notebooks, which are all over our house), my chair faces a cork board and shelves that constantly rotate with things I find beautiful or inspiring. I intentionally purchased shallow shelves so that I can face book covers I'm reviewing or referencing for The List toward the room.

I'm so grateful for this little room of my own that's a creative retreat on Saturday afternoons when making beaded creations or candles (like the still-drying candle in some of these photos!), a calm space for yoga and meditation, and a sun-filled room I'm excited to work in each day. I'll be sharing Stories later today on @shopcupcakesandcashmere to give you a full tour of the space. Until then, below are a few 'before' and 'after' shots of the room, as well as sources for everything in it:
