What Happened When I Tried a 28-Day Skincare Challenge

Every day looks exactly the same for Sloan. In the morning, we get her out of bed, she helps me squeeze fresh orange juice, then she eats breakfast while Facetiming 'Gaga' (my dad). We then read a book in her room, get her dressed and head to school. At this point, we have everything down to a science. She finds so much comfort in her routine that when it's disrupted (as it was during Daylight Saving time), it becomes obvious how jarring even a simple change like switching back the clocks can be. On the flip side, it's also a strong argument for how rewarding an established regimen can be.

There's something to be said for maintaining and sticking to a routine, not just for fitness, diet, and mental health, but also for skincare, however, I often find excuses to avoid starting (in fear that I won't keep it up). But, I also understand that you reap the most benefits when you stick with something consistently. While a big part of my job is testing out new products, I tried something new for the last 28 days with Olay: I made a conscious effort to commit to one part of my skincare every morning and each night before bed. 

While I used to wait until I heard Sloan calling for us at 6:15 a.m. to run into her room, I now wake up ten minutes before she does, and it's made all the difference. I do a three-minute meditation (it isn't a lot but it makes a big difference!), drink a glass of water, and do a quick skincare routine. After rinsing my face with water, I apply Olay Regenerist MicroSculpting Cream and Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream so that both can soak in while I turn my attention to getting Sloan ready. The entire thing takes only a few minutes, but the simple act of taking a proactive approach towards my morning regimen (instead of flying out of bed once Sloan calls) has been huge. Even those few minutes spent taking care of myself feels satisfying and not just for my state of mind - I've noticed a huge difference in my skin.

After using both creams consistently for 28 days, I noticed the skin around my eyes became significantly brighter and more youthful—so much so that several of you commented on my Instagram to ask what I've been doing! The fine lines on my forehead are also significantly less visible, which is one of the things I'd become most self-conscious of in my mid-30s. And, as is the case with any regimen you stick to, the minute you see results, it makes sticking to it that much easier (and enjoyable). It's not like I'm having a pain au chocolat in the tub every morning, but carving out just a few minutes for myself has made an enormous difference, not just in terms of being balanced, but also feeling and looking better. It had been years since I'd felt confident enough to leave the house without any makeup and what I've realized is that when my skin looks luminous and smooth, I don't find the need to add much else.
