Several weeks ago, I had no more than ten minutes to zip myself into a leather Tommy Hilfiger number and throw on some makeup. I was heading to a fashion show, so I wanted to look presentable, but for all intents and purposes, had no time. Under normal circumstances, I might have just freshened up my makeup, which I'd applied hours earlier, but I didn't even have time to do that. Instead of focusing on a bunch of little steps, I decided to opt for one totally wild, statement-making element: an impossible-not-to-notice swipe of crisp blue eyeliner. It was the easiest thing to do in the world, and I got more messages, notes, and compliments on it than pretty much any other time I've done my makeup. It made me realize the power and practicality of going bold when you're pressed for time. Even with barely any other makeup, it made me look put-together, intentional, and unique, when all I'd really done was swipe bright blue across my lash line. Lesson learned: If you have five minutes to get ready for a big event, wedding, or party—do something out of the ordinary. Try a sparkly emerald eye shadow, crimson-brown matte lip, or purple lids. No one will even notice you were rushed.
