Summertime makes me want to simplify everything—elaborate meals are traded in for no-cook dishes, layered looks are swapped for for sweet dresses, and my makeup routine becomes all about glowy, clean skin. Here's how I've been approaching my morning beauty regimen in the warmer months.

1. Primer: Laura Mercier Primer. I haven't always worn primer, but I find that it's necessary in warmer months, as my makeup has a tendency to melt off my face. I apply a pea-sized amount, rub it in my palms, and then spread it evenly on my face.

2. Tinted moisturizer: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. Once I've let my primer sit for a few seconds, I add a small amount of tinted moisturizer to my skin. I gently tap and blend as I go, making sure not to forget about my neck and ears. I start with way less than I think I'll need and typically don't end up adding more, so my skin still looks dewy and not as covered.

3. Concealer: Bare Minerals Concealer. I alternate between a cream-based concealer and this one that's serum-based, which I find more hydrating and glides on nicely. I dot it lightly where I need extra coverage, concentrating under my eyes, around my nose, and on any blemishes. I tap it in with my fingers and occasionally use a dampened Beauty Blender

4. Blush: Tarte Blush in 'Flush.' Since I tend to have pretty rosy cheeks naturally, I've gone through periods where I've avoided blush altogether. But in the summer, I like to add a little extra color and, since I no longer get a natural tan (or faux that often anymore either), it brightens up my face nicely. I've had this cheek gel for years—I'm sure way longer than is recommended—and the color is a perfect pinkish-purplish shade that I occasionally also put on my lips. I apply it to the apples of my cheeks and then blend a ton so I don't look like a clown.

5. Illuminator: W3ll People Illuminator. I'm always a fan of illuminator, but during the summer, I really pile it on. I think it makes everyone look more awake and fresh-faced, so I apply it all over: on my cheek and brow bones, down the bridge of my nose, to my cupid's bow, and on my chin. I just keep adding, tapping/blending it in, and adding more until I look glowy, but not greasy and sweaty (it's a fine line).

6. Brow Gel: Bobbi Brown Eyebrow Gel. Though my eyebrows themselves are not thick, my individual hairs are, which means they're so heavy that they lie down flat, which I don't like. I prefer the inside corners to stand up straight, which is why I brush them up with a clear gel (the Bobbi Brown one is the only one that actually keeps them there) and let it set for a few minutes before penciling them in.

7. Eyelash Curler: Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler. My eyelashes jut straight out without the slightest bend to them, so I always curl them before applying mascara so my eyes look brighter and bigger. I hold it on each eye for about 10 seconds.

8. Mascara: Tarte Mascara. I've been rotating mascaras lately - not because I can't find one I like, but just because it's fun to switch it up. This one goes on super dark-black, which I like because it's dramatic, without looking too thick.

9. Eyeliner: Lancome Eyeliner. I dot liquid eyeliner in between the base of my lashes so they look longer and thicker. Once I've added the dots, I connect them all, which adds a line that makes my eyes pop, but still looks subtle.

10. Brow Pencil: Kevin Aucoin in 'Brunette.' Once my brow gel has dried, I lightly pencil-in my brows. I used to try to pencil them in right after adding the gel, but found it was too slippery that I'd have to go over an area over and over, which ended up making them too dark and heavy-looking.

11. Lip salve: Aquaphor. In the winter, I'll usually add my lip salve as my first step so it has time to sink in while I do the rest of my makeup. But in the summer, when I prefer that my lipstick looks more like a stain, I apply Aquaphor right before my lipstick so it glides on and looks really natural.

12. Lip color: Nars 'Vera' Lipstick. Lastly, I layer on a berry-colored lipstick on top of my lip balm, so it more closely resembles a stain. I take my time kind of dabbing it on and then rubbing it in with my fingers so it looks a little lived-in and effortless.
