White Knight

July 29th, 2008

I go through white tops with such a fervor that it’s simply ridiculous. Though they happen to be a critical component of my wardrobe, I refuse to wear them once they’ve lost that crisp look and feel. Between underarm stains (due to deodorant), a baggy fit by the end of the day, and transparency issues, it’s hard to find just the right white top. That’s why I’ve done my research and have come up with my favorite.

Though I already own an LnA shirt, this long-sleeved option is clearly a necessity. Since the brand runs big (and stretches out), be ready to buy one or two sizes smaller than normal.

TIP: In order to remove underarm stains, soak in disolved powdered aspirin (5 tablets per liter of water) for 1-2 days.

It is funny, because I was nodding as I read this. I definitely think of you as a white shirt expert. They’re so you and you look great in them. Nice tip, by the way.

thanks for the tip. am with you on the white tee issues. i threw away more whites from lack of crispy whiteness and of course underarm stain. : )

Your insight about simple white tops is so true! It seems that the most basic pieces often are the most difficult to find the perfect fit. I will definitely check out your recommendation!

I usually stay away from white shirts because they seem high maintenance, but I’m totally going to try the two aspirin trick!

Wow, thanks for the tip. I am constantly recycling my white tees to use at yoga, once they get the stains. Same with white tanks, which I seem to go through like toilet paper.

I absolutely share your love of white shirts as well as a refusal to wear them after a certain point.. thanks for the aspirin tip. I’ll be trying that soon. Also, I think that long-sleeved is a necessity for me as well!\

    Love your blog!

How funny that you should write about the perfect tee because I just received my first order from Nation Ltd and I have to say…they simply rock. They meet all of the criteria that you listed above; squishy soft and fitted, broken in but not sloppy — I am in love! I will have to check out LNA too…just wanted to give a shout out about my find as well :-)

As for pit stains — I have a tip too; try panty shields – yep you heard right. Though it seems kind of gross, it works and protects your clothes!

    Great tip!
You know who makes excellent white long sleeve white waffle tees like the one you have pictured here? Forever 21! And they are only like 7 dollars :)

I was nodding, too, just like Rachel. Your posts are always amazing!

My personal experience shows that a reasonable amount of lycra/spandex make a cotton top much better:)

i am all about the white tops.. i have several too… and i do get those terrible underarm stains.. thanks for the tip!

I’m crazy about white Ts as well.
Luckily I found one in Target recently meeting all of your criteria. :) I’ll probably get one from LnA too. Wish they have that kind of design (long sleeve, fitted, and long) in all different colours as well!

Thank you so much for the stain removal tip. :)

I love white T’s and glad I’m not the only one to relegate them to the dust bin once they lose their snap. I’ve found that if I spray the underarms liberally with white vinegar before washing, it helps eliminate underarm stains. The smell washes away, of course.

You look so cute, even when shopping for food. ^_^

YouTube is super slow sometimes, I usually let the videos load in full before trying to view them. Hopefully it’ll work for you to see it today? I anticipate your feedback. :)

I have all the same trouble with white t-shirts, and I wear them all the time. I’m glad for the tips. Thank you.

Ugh, I hate underarm stains on shirts! I used to get that problem a lot in high school when I had practices, but if you use a deodorant that doesn’t contain aluminum it doesn’t stain. I use and Adidas one specifically for that reason, don’t know who else makes them like that, but they work for me and no more yucky stains! :)
