When The Going Gets Tough
{D.L. & Co. Skull Stationery – purchased through Gilt Groupe}
It goes without saying that certain weeks are just tough. Take yesterday, when I crawled into bed for a midday nap, and woke minutes later to find water spewing out of the bathroom sink creating a massive waterfall onto the carpet. Or when I was dashing out of the apartment on Tuesday afternoon and got my foot stuck under the door, ripping apart my brand new leather sandal. As an extra bonus, I managed to back my car right up into the wall of my garage last night as I was making the same exit I do everyday (both me and the car are fine). For weeks like these, I think it’s entirely justified to spoil myself with little gifts that make me feel infinitely better. Here are a few of my latest purchases.
{Gingham cupcake holders from BakeItPretty}
{The best concealer I’ve ever tried, with two complementary shades}

{Teeny pave diamond rings from XIV Karats (pictured here)}
{Deep burgundy-colored vintage sunglasses}

I was trying to decide if your rings were from Ileana Makri or not. Do you know that jeweler? I interviewed her here: http://www.pursespastriesetc.com/2010/06/lets-talk-with-ileana-makri.html if you’re interested
I’ll be sure to check out XIV!
Looking forward to see what you’ll bake in those adorable gingham cupcake holders!

If only everyone knew of the good that can come from a little retail therapy. I hope that you’re next week will be better!
Liking the skull stationary, although it might be a bit of a shock to the recipient. The gingham cupcake holders are so cute, they make me think of picnics.

I agree, a little retail therapy can always make a girl feel better. I especially love the concealer and the rings!

I know what you mean. I didn’t have that many mishaps this week but I did stub my toe under a door and broke off my nail (ouch!). I did get some beautiful designer shoes at 70% off yesterday which definitely helped the situation!
I love those cupcake cups. I just got some fun ones b/c my daughter wants to make cupcakes with sprinkles tomorrow. : )

We all have those weeks! I hope you feel better!
Love those sunglasses.
Sorry you’ve had a crummy week. Sometimes the universe does not work in our favor. And thank you for posting about the concealer; I’ve had the worst luck finding one that will work well for me (and concealer is a definite must for me).
Sorry about ur week – but at least you hv an opportunity for a midday nap! That’s a luxury not many ppl can afford!! Otherwise…hope your wk becomes increasingly better. PS. I use that concealer – definitely an agreed an item.
Totally justified. I was working until 12:30 a.m. (ET) last night… and I’m thinking about splurging on new pair of Jeffrey Campbells. Hope your week gets better – it’s almost Friday!

Ahhh! The cupcake holders are precious!

I completely understand how you’re feeling! The past couple of weeks have not been kind to me, either. Car wreck on the highway, near break-up with the boy, waking up at a start in the middle of the night to fireworks going off outside my apartment… and to top it off, I decided to work out yesterday to reduce some stress, which it did, but now I can’t straighten my right arm! What on Earth?!
(During all this time, I’ve splurged on three pairs of J Brand jeans and ordered a new black silk top yesterday. Ayyye!)

The joys of retail therapy. You deserve it sweetie.
There are some days that’s better stay at home, in bed.
Eew! I’ve been having an icky week too, but yea, shopping always helps !

Little splurges definitely make trying weeks much, much better! I hope you have a shoe guy for your new ripped sandal! Excellent picks as per usual. I love Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage, it’s one of my faves and I always have it in my kit for clients, you can custom blend your perfect shade that matches you seamlessly. Try it with eye cream to thin it out, as it can look crepey for under the eye concealing without it.

awww… sorry about the rough week. hang in there – it’ll get better
I mean how you feel: some days, it would be better for us to stay in bed, and just to rest
I couldn’t agree more with the sentiment and the cheer-me-up choices.

I know how ya feel. I had a rough year last year! It was all I could do to not throw in the towel. Luckily now things are getting better!

I use Laura Mercier’s wonderful concealer duo, as well — As you said, the best concealer I’ve ever used! Glad you’re feeling better.
I think a lady’s gotta do what a lady’s gotta do to make herself feel better. The rings are beautiful, and stationary is simply darling – makes me want to bring back the letter.

I’ve had a bad week too
I bought nail polish last night to make myself feel better.

cupcakes and jewelry=instant mood lifter. I think the ripping of a brand new sandal would’ve made me cry and run straight to my shoe guy.
It`s those little things that somehow always cheer you up so much…hope you`re feeling better and your luck has returned!
http://tovogueorbust.blogspot.com/
Wow, I’m so sorry about all the stuff that has happened to you. At least you got some new and lovely things!
I have been wanting that concealer ever since I watched a concealer tutorial by Kandee Johnson! So jealous!
Your new shades are lovely!

I’m sorry to hear about your tough week! I agree, anything from XIV Karats is an instant mood lifter. Your rings are beautiful. Hope your week improves soon! At least it’s almost friday.
oh, I’m sorry about your week, but you did good treating yourself! I’m having a bad day, does that qualify for hitting the stores tomorrow? Hope your Friday and your weekend will be better!
Ugh. I hate those weekends! At least it’s almost over, right?
Hey I understand what you mean. Yesterday I was driving and all of a sudden something hit my passenger window and it shattered. 250$ later, I think why me?
I love the cupcake holders you got, they are so cute! I just made some mango coconut cupcakes last night, yummy!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
I’m sorry you’ve had such a horrible week. I always hate it when weeks go like that. Hopefully, things will start to look up! Bake some cupcakes in your new cups! Cupcakes always make me feel better!
!!!!!! those rings are to DIE for !!!!!!!!!!
Gorgeous purchases. Well deserved!SarahD:)
Awh Emily I completely understand, things go wrong for me all the time, I try to stay positive in remembering there are always those more worse off than ourselves and that is true
Your purchases are well justified and cute!
http://www.raindropsofsapphire.com
Hope your days get better!
oh gosh. i sure have had days/weeks like yours. nothing beats the blues like a little pick-me-up gift. Big or small. I love the pave bands! x
really? those are your problems? most of us wish we could take a mid day nap.
My hand slapped over my mouth when I read about the heel. All situations described are awful, but that one really stung for some reason {I’ve so been there, only with a heel stuck in an NYC subway grate}. I think these purchases were entirely justifiable and I do the same thing when I’m having a tough day or week. PS: those pave rings are beautiful…I have very similar ones for my wedding bands!! One day I want to get pave sapphires and pave rubies, too, so I can stack and interchange them. Fifth anniversary next year, perhaps?! xx
I hate those kinds of days! Hope everything is better for you later in the week!
PS I adore those pave rings!
I’m having one of those weeks too and would gladly enjoy some cupcakes from those gingham cupcake holders.
those stack rings are so sweet…perfect for everyday.
love the little gingham cupcake wrappers!
xox alison

i spoiled myself at the big ASOS sale online last night…just because lol. i know the feeling though, i’ve been going through it recently…and sometimes retail therapy is needed.
http://www.chellbellz.com
im sorry you had a tough week (the other day i was at the gym and walked across the back of a moving treadmill and face planted). but those sunglasses are lovely and those cupcake holders are the cutest i’ve ever seen!! i hope your week picks up:)
ha and to add to before my favorite pair of shorts just ripped and i pulled another pair out of the dryer to see that they’d shrunk.
Bad week- great blog.
Keep doing your thing sometimes it looks like the world is out to get you but then something really good happens. And I’m not exactly having a good week myself so I feel your pain. To elaborate a bit…I did a full Marylin Monroe on way to the underground for work and it’s was granny pants day…life can be tough indeed
http://www.fashionistaontour.com
i agree , sometimes you just need little things to cheer you up. i’m in love with those rings. did you get them at the flea market?
hmm..sounds like we have had a similar week!
love those gingham cupcake holders!! i think they’d be perfect for our weekend picnic at the beach.
we all deserve some little treat from time to time, i am in the same situation in regards to “when the going gets tough…” so i do understand
I’ve loved D.L. & Co. for years!!! I actually worked with Douglas Little when I was at LA mag. Such a genius.
You have to check out my tribute to Simon Doonan’s “Eat, Shop, Love” article in Bazaar…my heart literally stopped and yours will too; it’s truly hilarious!

Those are all excellent choices for pick-me-up purchases! I especially love the sunglasses. And Laura Mercier concealer is totally the best. I’m treating myself to a Bad Week Massage tomorrow.
Love the rings. I’ll have to give the concealer.
I hate shoe trauma. Even if no one notices the imperfection, I hate knowing that my perfect shoes are flawed. I wonder if anyone has ever called in sick to work with a case of shoe trauma. It seems like a reasonable excuse. =)
