J.Crew Selvedge Chambray Shirt, Anthropologie Headband, Vintage Glasses, Michael Kors Watch, Topshop Lace Skirt, Alaia Platforms (seen here, here and here) Gifted Coach Leather Large Drawstring Bag
I’d been reluctant to embrace the light denim trend since it reminded me too much of my acid-washed days of 2nd grade. When I was in J.Crew though, I couldn’t resist this chambray shirt that feels like your boyfriend’s button down, but in a more manageable size. As it turns out, it’s way more versatile than I could have imagined and I incorporated it into several outfits and just dressed it up or down accordingly. This past weekend was one of the best I can remember in a long time. There was nothing in particular that was exceedingly special about it, but it was just what I needed.

I’m hesitant to try light denim as well – but I may have to reconsider. Your shoes add just the right amount of edge to this look. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.x
Great outfit.. I think that’s the perfect piece to incorporate the denim trend into your wardrobe!!

Ah those Alaias…. I can’t stop loving them.
XXX
And I really like your new jeans shirt… I am still debating it with myself… (I just threw out my old jeans shirt from high school a year ago…) but I think I already know what the outcome will be…

I adore this outfit. Simple yet so pulled together.
I’m loving the denim, leather and lace combination! And even though I’m not a huge high heels gal–especially for daytime–this look totally feels laidback and weekend-like. Love it!

Haven’t been sure about light denim either, but this looks great. Love the Alaia’s.
LOVE IT! the lace of the skirt makes the denim so feminin! Plus, those shoes are BOMB!! I know I say that on every single post you wear them, but I just can’t get over how amazing they are!!

Wearing my denim shirt right now, love how it works worn down as a jacket or tucked into a high-waisted skirt!
The jeans shirt looks great and I am a huge fan of those shoes!! Ahhh…those are stunning:)
As always a great outfit:)

Another thing on the list of “Should be reconsidered!” stuff… The way you wear it makes me want to get a light denim shirt asap!

Im still on the fence about this trend, whilst it has looked good on others, Im not so sure about it on myself.
Cute headband btw! Im on the hunt for one right now.

Splendid! I love the denim paired with lace and those shoes kill me. So gorgeous.
Simple is beautiful! Love it!
I love how the denim shirt makes the (otherwise dressy) skirt look so relaxed and easy. Very cute outfit!

Love this look, especially your hair, and the way you pair the lace and denim is BRILLIANT.
I have that headband and have been wearing it more headband-ish. It’s been met with mixed reviews. I thought about wearing it like this but chickened out. I think I need to rip the band-aid off and try it…SO cute.
j.crew is amazing. up until a few years ago i hated it! but these days i find myself wishing i owned everything in the catalog and that i’d visited the places where they shoot their campaigns.
the shirt looks fab paired with the lace skirt! would also look amazing with a floral mini. i have a great bodycon one from topshop. this pineapple number would be ubercute too: http://us.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=true&catalogId=32051&storeId=13052&categoryId=133496&parent_category_rn=133495&productId=1704274&langId=-1

I always get so upset when denim like this comes back around – I had quite a few pieces that I gave to good will a few years ago and I had a shirt just like this. I should learn to hold on to this stuff, but with limited space it’s just easier to not – then again I’m sure someone was able to use it that needed it more than I did. Now I guess I’m on my quest to find the perfect denim shirt
Agreed, light denim flashes me back to junior high. The worst I’ve seen, is a jumpsuit in light denim. I know it’s tres chic right now, but an entire jumpsuit…
I like how you’ve paired it with an unexpected lace skirt. That’s the essence of style. Cheers
My boyfriend has a denim shirt JUST like that. He may find that it goes mysteriously missing in the near future…..
Katie @ http://thefilmangel.blogspot.com
your hair is so adorable in these pictures! you really pull off the jean trend well. to tell you the truth, i am a bit afraid to sport the denim trend as well. maybe it’s the fact that they came out with demin jackets again, then shoes, eventually shirts and accessories, and then…backpacks! i guess i was a little overwhelmed. but thanks for the idea of just adding a simple shirt. i think your outfit is super cute!

I think everyone in our generation is a little hesitant to try the chambray shirt/light denim trend, because we’ve lived through it once before! But it’s slowly growing on me too…can’t help it!

Love the lace skirt!!

I was hesitant a long time too with the denim look, now that I started, I can’t stop anymore
We bought the same headband (and Aniseed Skirt) and other things! Similar taste, but worn in totally different ways! Love the way you’ve toughened up all the sweet girl pieces!
xx Vivian @ http://diamondsandtulle.blogspot.com
I completely agree with you about wearing light denim, but you pulled it off quite nicely! Now I’ll be on the lookout for something similar… thanks for the inspiration!
That is so weird! I just saw one of those shirts in a bag of clothes my mm was donating, but I didn’t think I would wear it XD

I felt the same way about the light denim, but I just found a pair of chambray cuffed shorts from Bloomingdales that I’m loving! They’re so soft and comfortable and they go with everything! I’m so glad you had a fabulous weekend. You look amazing.

I’m wary of lighter denim, but some of the chambray pieces I’ve seen look so chic. This look is no exception! And I’m still enamored of those platforms. Mmmmm.
I am in lust for your platforms!!
Love the hippie headband.

This looks so cute! I bought an almost identical chambray from Gap a month ago and never thought to pair it with a black mini! Thanks for the inspiration. Check out my blog I just started if you can
the skirt is reall nice, cool miz with lace and denim
I love that shirt! I blog about denim and chambray shirts all the time on DenimBlog and they are so popular! You look great! You paired it really well

I love the pairing of the denim with the girlie lace skirt. That seems to be what my look is these days.
I saw you at the Rose Bowl yesterday and it’s funny cause I see you around all the time and can never seem to tell you how much I love your blog cause I will feel a bit silly… but you as usual were stylish. Hope you found some good stuff. I did!

Yay for those sorts of weekends! And that denim looks great on you. I’ve been the same way – just not sure I want to go there.
Beautiful, your shoes are still one of my favorite pieces in your closet.
That skirt is adorable and I think you glammed up the jean shirt quite well!
still love those alaias!

I love your Alaias! Really into the blog, I’m putting you on my blogroll. xo

Hate to say it, but this look is not your best by a long shot. The headband looks weird, and the pieces don’t really seem to go together.
Adorable, as usual. Love the chambray.
I wondered if you might show an outfit with your Toms. I’m wanting to get some, but would like to see them styled on someone who knows how to style them!
Love love love the shoes and bag!
Those shoes are AWESOME!
Love the look – esp. the skirt trim!

I’ve got that chambray shirt! I wore it last week at my internship with a magazine with a Jcrew floral skirt and little keds…loved it. Jcrew is great right now!!
oh that shoes!! <3
I’ve got that chambray shirt! I wore it last week to my internship with a magazine paired with a short floral skirt from Jcrew and little keds. Jcrew is so great right now!! Perfect mixture of wearable preppy pieces and fun bohemian things.
I’ve been trying to resist all of the denim that’s showing up everywhere, but this is so wearable! I love how this denim shirt can instantly make anything more casual for day. Awesome mix
loving your chambray shirt!
i ADORE that headband you are wearing! so cute! and the light denim looks great!
I can’t get enough of those platforms!
Love the lace detail on the skirt. I think it works especially well when its juxtaposed with the roughness of the chambray shirt. I’ve recently gone for some chambray shorts, but I haven’t gotten up the nerve to wear them anywhere but around the house yet!! xo, becca
I have that same shirt! I waited for months for it to go on sale and even at $70.00 (normally $98.00) it was still worth every penny! I lived in it for about a week after it arrived. Fits perfectly and the it’s just the right shade of worn-in denim.
this is so so so fantastic, i love it

I was unsure of the denim shirts coming back… but I like your mix of rough and fab, casual and fierce… “fierce” who am I, christian siriano? Ha. Nice job, at any rate.

I lOOVE it!
How fun is your outfit?! I love the mixture of dressy and casual. I totally love rockin’ the headwrap on the forehead and I’m glad someone else has also embraced it.
Emily, I’m glad you had such a good weekend! It’s great to feel refreshed and recharged. Loving your outfit, you put the most unique pieces together that I would never assume would go together, but you make it look incredible!
Love those shoes!!!! They are amazing!!! I am with you I was a no go with the lighter denim… but this makes me want it!!!
