Cupcakes and Cashmere

Washington, D.C.

November 14th, 2012

{The vibrantly-colored trees at the Constitution Gardens}

The last time I visited D.C. was in college, when I stayed with friends at Georgetown University. I immediately fell in love with the city – the history, its beautiful architecture, the quaint streets, and the colors of fall (coincidentally my last trip was also in November). But this time was different. It was quiet and reflective, instead of simply chaotic and hurried. I intentionally left my schedule open, to accommodate for those leisurely afternoons that I’m usually too busy to enjoy. The weather was unseasonably warm (it hovered at around 70° for most of our stay), which meant that we walked everywhere, which was kind of necessary given the amount of food we consumed. Here are just a few of the shots I took while in town.

    So glad you enjoyed my restaurant. If you’d like one of those fabulous little creamers, I’d be happy to send you a couple as a gift. Just email…and if you’re ever back in DC, I’m happy to arrange a reservation for you at FF or Farmers Fishers Bakers (our new one).

    Except the museums, Washington is like a dead city. At least in summer.

    WOW, these photos are spectacular!!! I visited D.C. for the first time in July while my Husband was busy working in Bethesda, Maryland. He worked, I played. The weather was unbelievably hot (and we live in Texas) but the sights and food were incredible. My favorite meal was at Ping Pong (dim sum) at their Dupont Circle location. After lunch, I walked around several blocks and stumbled upon the Gandhi sculpture. Beautiful! It’s a great city and I want to go back in the spring and fall. This is a lovely post, thanks for sharing your trip. Happy Friday!

    I spent a wonderful 6 months living in DC one year (I interned for a Senator on the Hill), and still hold such fond memories of the thrilling history, the beautiful streets of Georgetown, the tiny bookshops and the farmer’s markets of the town. Thank you for bringing back such happy thoughts via your charming pictures!

    I LOVE Washington, DC!! Loved to see your pics … Lived there for 6 years. It is not NY, but has its charms. You just have to discover it! Recently I wrote about a wonderful little and “secret” restaurant there:
