Two Cents
You might not always ask for the advice you’re given, but some of it’s certainly worth listening to. I was recently asked by my manager what piece of advice had the biggest impact on my life and narrowing it down proved to be quite tough. Here are just a few words of wisdom that I live by.
-It doesn’t matter if you fail as long as you’ve tried your best.
-When a person shows you who they are, believe them the first time.
-Never settle for less than what truly makes you happy.
-Don’t stress the small stuff.
-Eat dessert first.

Always be true to yourself and if you can’t put your heart in it, take tourself out of it.
Also, my mom always taught me that as long you learn after a mistake,

Live life with no regrets and regret only to the things you have not achieve.
The one that struck me the most in recent months was “Mind your *own* business”. As in, not to worry about what anyone else is doing, has done, or how your work compares. I had never heard the 2nd one in your list above ~ thanks for sharing!

the last thing my nan said to me before she dies was to follow your heart as i have a tendancy to do as i m told! lol! i still havent put this lil piece of advice into action yet but im working on it! love the eat desert first! x

Take responsibilty for every situation in your life, even if you didn’t “create it,” you have control over being in that situation.

If you are having a bad day think of the worst day you have ever had. If your day is worse you can complain, if not, it’s not so bad.

Wow, Emily, those are amazing. That second one hit me like a ton of bricks… I am one of those people that always tries to make excuses for other people’s actions. I need to print these out and hang them on my wall!
Here’s the advice I try to live by daily:
1) It’s better to try something and fail than regret never knowing what could’ve been.
2) Always remember the good times we had. (-my grandma)
3) People won’t remember you by what you did or how much money you made, they’ll remember how you treated people. (-my grandpa)

How I have put that into practice this summer? Highway Construction Traffic. Rather than get annoyed and curse the state for not knowing how to plan when construction should and shouldn’t be done, I think to myself: Thank goodness, those people have a job and income. And the supplies are being bought from other people who have jobs now too, as do the equipment people, the sign people etc. And know I have an extra few minutes to sing out loud to my favorite songs on my ipod! Then I’m happy and at least things are a bit better than they seem on the surface.
Life is short, make it your best life!

I have been stressing so much lately on trying to be this girl who is one way, but really I am completely not that way. I have been so tense about it that it is affect my feelings towards everything. Once I realized that i just need to be me… no matter what (because I am really a great person)… I have started to relax.

Ha! I love these, particularly the dessert firs part! Some of my favorite advice would probably be: Treat yourself at least once a day, even if it is just something small. Never forego a chance to try something new. And, always dance when you have the opportunity!

I’m a pretty happy-go-lucky person. If something happens to me that I don’t have much control over, I try not to let it bother me because there’s little I can do to change it, so why make myself miserable? Instead, I try to find the good in whatever happened and learn from it as best I can. I know this infuriates some people because all they want me to do it cry and scream/yell, but I find you can get through most anything if you choose to be happy.
in the words of ferris bueller: Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

My mother once told me that,
“You can genuinely love a person, it doesn’t mean you should marry them.”
She was speaking from experience and I took that advice to heart. I dated quite a bit before meeting my husband and was married later in life than I expected. But looking back at some of the men I truly loved, I’m so thankful that I recognized the fact that they weren’t “the one”. It made recognizing “the one” so much easier when he finally did come along.
Good words of wisdom. And ah yes, the infamous eating dessert first. I was puttering around the kitchen trying to decide what to have for lunch. The end result? A bowl of melted chocolate chips with peanut butter swirled in. Just because I can.
