Turkey Trousers

November 25th, 2008

Despite the laid back nature of Thanksgiving, it’s always a tricky holiday for which to dress.  Of course, you want to look nice, but given the four extra pounds you’ll be acquiring in an afternoon, comfort is of utmost importance.  Since only Joey Tribbiani can get away with wearing maternity pants to the table, here’s my idea of a perfect outfit for Thursday afternoon.

1. Sheer Floral Woven Blouse, $19.90.  Dark enough to hide spills, but in a breathable fabric with a cheery pattern.
2. Miu Miu Jeweled Satin Cuff, $294.  This sparkly bracelet will illuminate the whole table during dinner.
3. Flannel Lantern Skirt, $70.  I love this slimming skirt that can be inched up as the belly expands.
4. Marc by Marc Jacobs Glossy Bow Hairband, $39.  A cute hair accessory that will also help keep food out of your mouth.
5. Maloles Pleated Bow Ballet Flat, $230.  These crinkled leather ballet flats are not only cute, but also comfortable for running around the kitchen.

What is your take on Thanksgiving attire?  Do you roll to the table in sweats or satin?

    1) That is a great outfit! It really is. I love how subtle the clothing is, and yet it’s dressed up by adorable accessories.
    2) Expandable waistline! That’s hilarious! Great thinking. I will probably wear something elastic myself. I’m putting together a Thanksgiving post, too!
    3) I hope your holiday is wonderful! :)

That Miu Miu cuff is totally covetable! Beautifully edited collection of pieces here, E!

As for that La Rok skirt, I just went to shopbop and it seems to be sold out but there are other similar ones, esp. those by Eliz & James:

LOL! You’re so great :) I love the expandable waist on the skirt, that will be vital, no doubt! I like being able to wear sweaters that cover a multitude of sins and hide a multitude of drippings and crumbs :)

You are definitely my kind of girl. I LOVE bows, and if those shoes were $230, I would be all over them. I just bought a cardigan from J. Crew that has bows all around the collar.

Love the items you picked, perfect for thanksgiving! Wish I was celebrating that this year as well, then I would have dressed up as well!

Phew! Glad to know I’m not the only one who dresses strategically for turkey dinner! I find leggings and a tunic are a sensible option…though it’s true that Joey did have the best idea. That show is such a classic…

Emily, I laughed out loud with the expandable skirt idea!!! And the arm candy is so yummy! Everyone in tow gets dressed to the nines for turkey-day, probably because we all seem to boast a camera fetish making it flashbulb city around here! lol

great choices for turkey day! i agree, comfort is a must. since my family usually eats around mid-afternoon, we spend the whole morning cooking in the kitchen and running around the house with the kids. i’m going to be wearing a cozy sweater, skinny jeans and flats. comfort first on these kinds of days :)

Great recommendations – keep the focus on the non-expanding body bits! I’m still mulling my choices … but it’ll be middle ground between sweats and satin.

i am thinking about that. i will be spending this thanksgiving with bf and his family so i don’t want to be over the top but not too casual.

oh what cute outfit choices, i love that skirt.

i usually rock jeans and a sweater, try and contain my need for an expendable waistline, but who knows, if i need to i’ll just unbutton, haha.

I’ve stumbled on a really cute site! That outfit looks really pretty. My mom would never let us to the table for Thanksgiving without first showering and putting on decent clothes. I’m spending this Thanksgiving with one of my sorority sisters so I’m probably going to wear a gray mod cotton dress with dark gray lace detail and gray tights with black ballet flats.

for the first time in my life i am NOT wearing jeans on thanksgiving!
