The Beauty Bus
This morning I’m getting some much-needed highlights and lopping off several inches of my straggly hair. While I don’t exactly enjoy the countless hours spent in a salon chair, I always walk out feeling confident and polished. I’ve never questioned the importance of simple grooming treatments, which is why I support a similar cause for those who are unable to treat themselves to such luxuries.
The Beauty Bus Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for home-bound, terminally or chronically ill patients and their caregivers with in-home beauty treatments (free of charge). The mission is to reach out to these compromised and isolated individuals and bring beauty into their lives in the comfort of their homes.
Next Sunday, April 25th is the 1st Annual Beauty Drive. It’s a great way to support such an important cause and if you’re in the L.A. area, I would love to see you there. You can buy tickets here or offer a donation if you’re unable to attend.

That is so awesome….I do volunteer work with animals on a weekly base and though it’s not the same thing, it makes me feel so much better about myself when I walk out after my shift.

What a great thing!
What an amazing concept.

reading that put a smile on my face
What a truly beautiful way to give back!
As a nurse, I love this, I can tell you first hand how much it impacts a patient to wash their hair, paint their nails, or even give the men a shave….brings their dignity back and makes them feel like a million bucks….amazing!
What a wonderful cause. I hadn’t heard of this before. In my experience, having your nails or hair done is an underappreciated activity for home-bound individuals. Things like painting your nails are wonderful pick-me-ups. Thanks so much for sharing!

Wow. What a great cause. I wonder if there is anything like this in NY.
it’s always refreshing to hear about others in our generation doing good! i can’t help but feel like so much of the charity work done by our peers revolves around paying to go to parties and this type of thing is infinitesimally more worthwhile and fulfilling!
good for you!

I love this idea. I’m a hairstylist and I love to offer free haircuts to those in need and donate giftcards. I’d love to be a part of this. It is such a luxury for many.
What a great idea.
Fantastic. Well done.
What an amazing organization! I think people tend to forget that people in ALL situations feel fabulous when they’ve been pampered.
great post, it’s great of you to share that

what an awesome thing to do! if i were in LA i would be there in a heartbeat!
This is a beautiful post.
WOw. This is a great cause. I know what a swipe of a pretty nail polish or a fresh haircut does for me so I can only imagine how great it must feel for these wonderful people.
This is a great cause. I wish I was in LA so I could be there. I strongly believe that sometimes it is just the little things that can make an individual feel beautiful. Everyone deserves that
Thank Emily!
So inspiring Emily!

As predicted, you’re as purdy inside as you are out. Thanks for the special post.
That is super cool.. I am interested in seeing if we have anything like that around the Dallas Fort Worth area, if not that needs to change!

Great post – I love when people give back.

I’ve read every one of your posts, and this is easily one of my favorites to date. I also like to write about causes on my blog — isn’t it lovely when fashion and charity come together to do something beautiful?

aww, what a great cause! if i lived in the area i would love to go.
Wonderful post. A great cause like this really put things into perspective.
Thanks.

Emily! What a great cause. I am always one to love charities and giving back to others. Although I may not be able I attend this event because I don’t live in the area, I will be cheering on you and everyone else attending from afar.
I just wanted to let you know that your blog really inspires me. My favorite thing about it is that it’s not just about fashion. You put so much inspiration, love, and most importantly yourself into each post. The best thing I took away from your FAQ section was something you said about loving everything you post. I apply that to my blog (which you inspired me to start) every time I post.
Keep on doin’ what you’re doin’.
Xoxo

Emily, you’re good people. The Weinrot family will make a donation.

Great cause, thanks for posting. Won’t be able to make it this year, but will look on the site for other ways to contribute. Have fun rockin’ out the new do!
That is such a great idea and good cause, if I lived in L.A in would go.

Great cause Emily…fun to see you last night! xoxo
that sounds like an awesome foundation, i might have to stop by. Thanks!
Have fun at the salon today! Like you, I’m not a fan of going to the salon but I always love the finished product. Come to think of it, I need to make an appointment!
What a great cause and I love that you are using your blog to get support – such a great way to use this medium!
What a great foundation! I’m totally not a fan of going to the salon. I pared down my beauty maintenance so that slowly I went less, and less. First, I stopped getting highlights and opted for overall colour, to spend less time (and $ there). Eventually I went with my natural colour – less time. Then all I go in for his haircuts and I hardly do that! I have a problem sitting still!
What a great project! Thank you for sharing this.
What a great cause! I have never heard of this. I wish I could come to the event but already attending another South Bay event in Torrance that day. Have fun and you rock for getting involved!
What a great organization.. thanks for sharing! I’m trying to get a job with a similar non profit in the Seattle area. Looking forward to seeing your new do!

You’re so right–feeling beautiful IS important, and it’s not something any woman should have to do without.
Thanks for sharing this Foundation with us!
This is such a wonderful organization, Em! Thanks for introducing us to it.
Great cause girl!!! Love that you are encouraging others to give back as well!

I used to work with folks that offer similar services to seniors; it really is incredible to see the way they light up afterwords. Keep up the good work, girl.

I love that you do this, Em. It sounds like such a wonderful charity. I always say that it doesn’t matter what cause you get behind, just get behind one. There are so many amazing ones out there, and none are unworthy. I think I heart you even a little bit more now:) xo
Wonderful charity! It is amazing how services that help to make beautiful are also so healing. My best friend is an esthetician and she is always telling me that her job is revealing beauty from the inside out. Services like these make people’s hearts soar!
Hey , i’m alice and i’m 14 years old and i am a BIG fan of your beutiful blog! Just saying!
Have a beautiful weekend!

What a fantastic cause – I was just thinking today about how the fashion industry is sometimes very self-focused…so great to see people doing something like this though! Thanks for sharing about The Beauty Bus…
Too bad I am in NY! This is a wonderful cause. I work with Alzheimer’s patients. Yesterday, this woman came in with the most beautiful outfit on. The ‘fashion-risk’ part of her is still alive and it made me so happy. She may have a bad memory, but her instincts for beauty still thrive. Thanks for posting this, Emily.
what a great cause! i love this idea of giving back. I was involved in a similar project in my area a few years ago and it was super fun!

Wonderful that you’re using the popularity of your blog for such a great cause. Hope more successful blogowners will do that in future.

Awesome posting! I wanted to drop a note and let you know that I really love your blog. Your sense of fashion is great, and I love how you incorporate more affordable options into your postings!
what an awesome organization.
Instead of saying how great this is, why don’t you all donate? I just donated 20$- not much. They need to do this in Vegas too! Love this Emily!
Just amazing!!!

What a great cause! I can’t make it to the event, but I’ll definitely donate.
emily this made me smile
thanks for posting about something so wonderful.
My girlfriend will be at this event. In fact, she’s heading over now to start packing the gift bags. She is a childhood friend with one of the founders of Beauty Bus.
