Taco Tuesday
Last week I went out for tacos and was reminded why the alliterative Tuesday night meal is always a great idea. I took a stab at whipping up my own version with salmon last night with a dry-rub and tomatillo-avocado slaw that I’d gladly make time and time again (recipe here). It was a multi-step process, which I find oddly calming and most importantly, a learning experience while in the grocery store. After scanning the entire produce section, I realized I had never seen a whole tomatillo and seriously considered buying a canned salsa. Instead, I surreptitiously asked an employee where the little fruits were located without disclosing that I had no idea what they looked like. I only hoped he hadn’t seen me walk by them five times just minutes before.

I’m loving that you’ve never seen a tomato. I’m from Canada – that stuff is all over the place (fresh produce – I mean)
That looks really good – and a little messy!
They look great. I’ll have to try. Thanks for the post.

I want to eat some tacos now!
Mmmm… I’ve been craving fish tacos since the to-die-for ones I had in Maui. Your photos are drool-worthy. Now the question remains: will I find perfect ripe avocados and tomatillos in Montreal in September? I doubt it but I gotta try!

Yummm!! So funny, I learned how to make a salsa verde with tomatillos last weekend- I had never seen them before either! Tasty!
Mmmm… this looks fantastic! I am a BIG fan of anything Mexican-inspired and the Hubs loves tacos, so this looks like a winner in our house
I was thinking of playing around with a white fish taco, topped with fresh mango salsa – another light & fresh meal!
Thanks – XO

The meal looks delicious. You are quite the little cook!! I need to become a better cook, without a doubt.
Yum! I love tomatillo salsa, but have never tried to make it before. Now I know what they look like.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you for posting this, I happen to have all the ingredients right now. I think I’ll make it for lunch!
Ha! So THAT’S a tomatillo! Wouldn’t have known myself. In college, my roommate and I went to the grocery store to buy the ingredients for a recipe we were making that involved sake. Only, neither one of us had ever heard of sake, and were wandering the spice aisle looking for something called “sake” (pronounced with a hard “a”). Seeing as I’m now 100% in love with Japanese food, it’s especially hilarious to look back on!
BTW these look delish. Also, I will be by next Tuesday for the alliterative meal:)
mmm.. I love taco tuesday! those look delicious!

What a coincidence! I also purchased tomatillo for the first time last night and made a yummy salsa in my molcajete. Grilling the tomatillos before hand produced such a wonderful aroma; I was practically salivating. I may just have tacos for dinner again tonight. ^_^
Wow! I am saving this recipe! Looks delish! Thanks for sharing!

YUM! I think I will be making tacos this weekend!
There is a restaurant (Aqua Verde) in Seattle that sells a similar dish, except that salmon is smoked. Delish!
I made this tonight for my family and it was a pretty big hit! Thanks for putting up this great recipe–I never would have found it without you! It was a little hard finding tomatillos in season in New England but it was worth the search. Also, I added a little sugar to the slaw and I thought it worked a little better. It was great, I definitely recommend!
I just made this recipe, used a little different recipe for the fish but the same one for the tomatillo slaw. It was delicious! Yours looks a lot better though, ha. Thanks for the idea!
