Succulent Centerpiece

November 22nd, 2011

This year I was given the task of creating a centerpiece for our Thanksgiving table (that will seat fourteen). Instead of relying on classic autumnal decorations like pine cones (which I used for place settings last year), acorns, or leaves, I decided to go with a more rustic vibe that still incorporated outside elements. I kept it low and long (to not obstruct everyone’s view at the table), and lined a sleek slate tray with burlap, added miniature succulents, and filled it in with cranberries.

it will also look really good as an accent on a winter table setting – succulents amidst all white

Great idea for a centerpiece, and especially appropriate for Califiornia, but the entire project might look more polished if you took the succulents out of the orange plastic containers. They are semi-arid climate plants and will not suffer from not having moisture (or soil, for that matter) for weeks. In the alternative, you can also plant the succulents with more soil and then scatter the cranberries around the succulents.

I love the idea of burlap as a table runner. I am currently obsessed with Fall colors (cranberries, oranges, etc), and those centerpieces are great centerpieces. What great ideas!

I love your creativity, I wish I was more creative myself. I saw an idea with cranberries where you fill glasses vases with different amounts of water and throw in cranberries to create a red line on top going around the vase, it looked very pretty.

I really enjoyed the cranberry touches. To camouflage the plastic planters, try some Spanish moss, with the cranberries on top.

You are so creative, what a great conversation-having centerpiece.

Wow, I really love that! Very inspiring. I’ve never seen fresh cranberries before because we don’t get them here in Australia. I thought they were cherry tomatoes at first!
