Striped Devotion

July 16th, 2008

I certainly would not consider myself an avid watcher of television, but when it comes to shows that are centered around fashion, I can become rather obsessed. While I’m eagerly anticipating the premiere of Project Runway tonight, I can’t help but look ahead to September 1st, when my beloved Gossip Girl returns.

I came across this picture today of Dan and Serena onset and felt like I had been reunited with two close friends (in a non-creepy sort of way). Even though they’re both clad in navy striped shirts, they still manage to epitomize completely different vibes. The tie-died effect and loose fit of Serena’s tank lends itself to a beachy vibe, wheras Dan maintains his preppy style even in a casual shirt. I certainly see couples that look as though they dressed in tandem, but I’m not sure how I feel about it.

If you had/have a significant other, would you be opposed to dressing so that your outfits complemented each other?

My significant other definitely enjoys wearing matching clothing, considering half my wardrobe is commandeered on a regular basis (sweatshirts, v-necks, etc.) Oddly, she doesn’t like it when I wear her panties.

that’s an interesting question… here in Korea, couples often dress alike. stores sell “couple t-shirts”, matching baseball hats, and even matching underwear. i’m soon going to dedicate a whole entry to it, complete with pictures. it’s hilarious to see them, i think being too “matchy-matchy” is a bit… too much. my boyfriend and i did it as a joke once when we went to a baseball game, we wore matching dark jeans and Tiger shirts.
in the picture Dan and Serena look cute since it’s not exactly the same shirt. otherwise it’s not so good…

oh, lordy, no! once i saw a couple in matching uggs, yikes! But I’ve been scarred from an early age when i was dressed like all my sisters for church.

Everytime I think of couples matching clothing the first thing I think of is Britney and Justin’s denim on denim disaster. Personally, I think each person should have their own individual style and not try to dress alike. However, I’m not opposed to taking his shirts to wear :P

I am so psyched for the show to start up again, totally GG deprived.

I am so phenomenally in love with that show – I miss it like crazy. When I saw that photo, I totally caught myself smiling like a little girl. AWH! I miss my GG! :(

I guess I wouldn’t mind semi-matching to my significant other, I think in a way you can pull it off without crossing any weird -’80-year old gambling couples in matching Hawaiian shirts’ – lines. You just have to be careful what you match.

Thank you so much, Em! I’m so excited about this whole thing and there is so much wonderful energy coming out of it! I CAN’T WAIT until August 1st!!

I wouldn’t dare, it’s too cutesy for me. However, I’ve busted Mr.OM putting on co-ordinating stuff when we’re dressing for the gym. Today, I had a red top and black shorts on. About a minute later, he came out in black shorts with red piping, and a red top! ;)

you know, same here.. i ONLY watch TV if theyre fashion related.. and celebrity gossips, or something really interesting over discovery travel and national geographic and mtv.. okay thats too much! :)

i think it just so happens that when u and the boyf are always together, ull happen to have the same taste over some time.. like me & my ex used to wear matching outfits, but we really didnt talked abt it! it just happens! and yes, these 2 looked good here.. ilike her tank! :)

Hmm, really not sure-maybe I’d go as far as jeans and top-haha!

Firstly, obviously whoever invented couple t-shirts should be shot (twice over). But if you’re talking about co-ordinated dressing, that’s something else. It can still be a little contrived and tacky though.

It’s always more fun to just turn up and see what each other is wearing. Chances are, if you’ve been dating long enough, you tend to match in some way, anyway. :)

Adorable (i.e., ick!). Let’s just hope they didn’t do that on purpose. And is it just me, or is Blake way too good for him??

Opposed?! I would INSIST upon it! Sadly, my significant other may not be as enthused as I am.

Gossip Girl, I’m addicted! *injects season one into veins* Ahhh…

Awwww they look adorable together!!! It would depend what she wore, but a little matching would not be a bad thing.

whoo-hoo project runway!!! :) hmmm that is an interesting choice to make. i supposed if the outfits didn’t look too twin-like or clash colors, it would be fun to occasionally wear a matching outfit :) ) xoxo, lulu
