Strawberry Summer

May 18th, 2008

Since Southern California’s weather varies little throughout the year, I rely on culinary traditions that signify the arrival of the different seasons. In autumn, I buy Pumpkin Butter from Trader Joe’s that has such a distinct, spicy smell that’s reminiscent of falling leaves and crisp mornings.  At the onset of summer, I visit local farmer’s markets for their incredible strawberries.  Though it might be hard to tell in the photographs, there are six baskets worth of berries in this enormous Tupperware, for an incredible $6.

This seasons strawberries has just hit the market in Norway, and when I stopped by to check out the pricing today I was shocked! One small basket cost $6! Food is really expensive here – especially healthy food and fruit/vegetables.

Wow $6 for all of those?! Im used to having to pay about £2 for a tiny punnet with like 10 strawberries in!
    I love summer fruits =]

I’m so glad everyone is enjoying these photos. It only took me 45 minutes to wash, hull and slice all of these berries, for Emily to enjoy.
