Spring Fling: French Dessert

It was only until after I moved to L.A. that I experienced my first French macaron.   Reminiscent of little jewels in pastel colors, they’re full of flavor and remarkably light when you need just a hit of something sweet.  Here’s a glimpse of my afternoon snack courtesy of Paulette.

mac-1.jpg

Doesn’t the little brick building look like it belongs in Georgetown?

mac-7.jpg

Choosing a flavor can be a bit daunting.

mac-2.jpg

I love their cascading display of little cookies.

mac-3.jpg

I chose caramel, coconut and rose.

mac-4.jpg

The caramel was my favorite.

I feel incredibly uncultured, but I have never tried one. Those look ahhh-mazing & judging by their names, I think you did a good job picking them out! I’m such a fan of colorful baked goods…especially the rose- it has such a delicate design….

15 L { 05.13.09 at 5:36 am }

Thank you so much for the comment on my blog. I have been reading yours for a few months (love your organized closet, wow) but haven’t commented! I guess I was a wee bit intimidated! I will post a link to your blog for sure. Have a wonderful day! xo

Oh my god, I love macarons!!! My sister brought some for me from Paris (business trip) when she stopped here in FL on the way back to Hawaii.. They are so tiny and cute and we enjoyed them so much. My favorite has always been chocolate:)

37 sendingpostcards { 05.13.09 at 9:23 am }

Macarons! I thought I had the best ones in Paris… then I went to Joël Robuchon in Tokyo and died – his macarons have either cold mousse or ice cream in them… amazing.

43 Amber Eilert { 05.13.09 at 10:03 am }

I may ned to take a trip to LA just to experience all the choices – they all look mouthwatering, and not too sweet which is what I love.

44 stephanie@paisleypetunia { 05.13.09 at 10:18 am }

Your photos are beautiful! I love the macarons at the Little Next Door + every time we try to go Paulette after dinner its closed, I better try to get there earlier.

45 The Fashion Economist { 05.13.09 at 10:22 am }

I absolutely love macarons, but the best once are those from L’adurée in Paris. They even have a fan group at Facebook:)

46 TheBeautyFile { 05.13.09 at 10:25 am }

I thought about your “romper post” from the other day when I saw this. Felt the need to share:

59 Wanderlusting { 05.13.09 at 3:13 pm }

I LOVE MACARONS! I finally found a cafe in Vancouver that does them, sadly they aren’t as good as the ones in France. But what is? That Paulette place looks amazing though – what selection!

60 Hudson { 05.13.09 at 3:44 pm }

Mmmm…where is Paulette? So cute. I can’t decide if I’m gonna like them though.

xoxo,

Little, tasty works of art.

62 emily { 05.13.09 at 4:50 pm }

Can you believe that I have never tried a french macaron either! I’d have to admit its a bit sad considering I have made and enjoyed black bean brownies and have even eaten chocolate covered aunts and grasshoppers! I may try to make some of these myself. We’ll see how it goes.

63 Haute Whimsy { 05.13.09 at 7:17 pm }

Mmm, I love rose flavored desserts! In fact, I just bought rose flavoring over the weekend!

64 Wednesday { 05.13.09 at 7:25 pm }

68 andhari { 05.13.09 at 11:09 pm }

I love macarons but if I tell any of my french friends that I love macarons they laugh at me and call me a tourist. Maybe boring for them but new flavor of love to me?:P

69 issa { 05.14.09 at 7:42 am }

i love french macarons! i’ve been wanting to buy a kitchenaid mixer so i can attempt to make ‘em on my own.

70 Anne @ The City Sage { 05.14.09 at 7:47 am }

Yes yes yes! We have a Paulette up here in SF just blocks from my house–it’s seriously dangerous! My mom was visiting last week and I took her in–we had such fun picking out all the flavours to fill our little box! My faves are coconut and almond…

71 Celia { 05.14.09 at 8:44 am }

Ooh those look delightful. I have been wanting to try a macaron for awhile, these photos make me REALLY want one! I’ll have to look out for a French baker in Chicago…

72 hanako66 { 05.14.09 at 2:15 pm }

I love them so much….such a special treat!!!

73 jamieofalltrades { 05.14.09 at 3:31 pm }

Yum! The dark red ones look like they could be red velvet. Is that so?

74 Megan { 05.15.09 at 7:27 am }

Yum! I want to go. It looks fabulous!

75 Wednesday { 05.16.09 at 7:46 pm }

Because of this post, I tried some macaronsfor the first time last night.
Although I wasn’t a fan of rose/lychee, I loved the coconut.
Thank you for the inspiration~

76 Lyndsy { 05.22.09 at 9:05 am }

Yum! I have been looking for a good macaron location for awhile now and will definitely be heading over to Paulette’s for the carmel one. Delish!
