Sparkled Apricot Nails

Ever since I got engaged last year, I’ve been wearing glittery polish on my ring finger (you can see variations here, here, here, and here). It’s a fun way to add a bit of sparkle, without looking like a disco ball, and I love that there are endless color combinations to try. A few weeks back, I posted pictures of my black and gold Calgel manicure (here) and received countless questions about how it was done. Though that was a professional manicure, I’ve been experimenting with some similar designs and thought I’d share some of my tips on how to do it yourself.

{Tools}

{Paint two coats of polish, with the exception of your ring finger}

{Apply clear polish to ring finger and sprinkle with loose glitter}

{Shake off excess by tapping the tip of your finger on a hard surface}

{Try out different designs with the pen, like two colored halves}

{…or a pink-colored moon}

{…or little stripes on your pinky}

{Final result}

P.S. Since your non-dominant hand can be tricky to maneuver (practice does certainly help!), stick to easier designs, like polka dots, simple lines, and zig-zags until you become a bit more ambidextrous.

Ahah, a nail art pen explains so much! :) Even with that handy tool, I’m sure I have a lot of practicing ahead of me before I can make designs as neat as yours. Practice will make perfect/ambidextrous, though…By the way, do you use any kind of nail dryer at home when doing your own nails, Emily? Or do you just air dry? Thanks for these tips! -Jennifer

First, I love the idea of using sparkles on your ring finger — brilliant way to show it off a bit! And I love the colors you picked; your designs are done perfectly! Super jealous of your nail-painting skills… I can barely do a regular manicure!

I have been putting glitter on my ring finger too-it’s my fav without being too flashy! I was just using glitter polish though, I might need to get some actual glitter and try it the way you do it-i’m just nervous it will be hard to take off afterward.

I think I’ll try me too one glitter and the other coloured, the result is so cool!

So cute how you mixed the patterns! I have to say though, a couple months ago I glittered a couple nails with Martha’s peridot and it stained my nails! I can still see it – and my manicurist tried buffing it out but it’s just a matter of growing it out at this point. Just a word of caution – maybe a colorless glitter like your silver would be fine…

What is it about nail art being more popular these days? We are no longer happy with all the amazing colors we have to choose from but now we fantasize about all these incredible designs and glitter. I love that we are now making short nails hotter!

Cheers!

Ever since I saw this post I have been experimenting with different colors and decorations on my nails. It’s such an easy and simple way to add a little interest and contrast to your look. Thanks for the inspiration. Check out my blog at andysofar.wordpress.com so I can return the favor!

What a different twist on nail polish! I never thought about painting my ring fingernail with glitter but now it so makes sense! I don’t know if I can pull this off but I may try ;)

I was not a very big fan of nail art. But since I saw the way that do your nails, I changed my opinion. You are so so creative. Wow!

Hey Emily, new to your blog and really enjoying it!!! Love this tip especially – I bought the whole 24 piece Martha Stewart Glitter Set after reading this post! Wondering if you have any genius tips for how to remove the glitter? I paint a base coat as you suggest, and then a top coat as well. I have to use the nail polish remover pad to sort of scrape of the glitter and loosen it up. Any tips for any easier removal?
Thanks very much!

Ah, I love Essie Tart Deco! I wore it all summer. My favorite shade. I’ll have to try the apricot sparkle version.
