It went from 5o degrees to 13 with a windchill of -3 in 1 day! I would recommend lots of layers. It seems silly, but they help cut down on the wind chill factor and if you use cotton they still breath really well, so you wont sweat when you're inside the way you would with long johns. Otherwise, lots of layers. tank top, long sleeve, sweater then coat and scarf. It gets easier when you live here and adjust, but its brutal at first! Anyhow, I believe that the innermost layer is the most important - if you have something not-very-effective on the inside, then whatever you put over it is not going to help. I would recommend getting a thin woolen undershirt and woolen leggings as these will insulate very well. I also have had luck wearing thermal activewear such as the thermal compression tops that Under Armour makes. It is very form-fitting and thin to boot so you won't feel too bulky with all the other layers you will put on top. Hope that helps!
