Shop-a-Matic

nymag.jpg

When I was approached by New York Mag to pick some of my favorite Spring clothes for Shop-a-Matic, I could barely contain my excitement.  The wonderfully executed site consistently puts forth the most inspirational pieces and I got to sort through only the best of the best.  Ranging from a “meant-to-be-noticed” nude bra and paperbag shorts to watercolor print dresses and strategic cut-outs, I selected my favorite items in price ranges that can work within anyone’s budget.

Click here to see my top picks.

What’s on your must-have list for spring?

I’m too poor to buy new clothes. Sigh.

2 Jen Tarte { 02.23.10 at 1:10 am }

I love all your choices! Especially the skirt!

3 Kristina (Pretty Shiny Sparkly) { 02.23.10 at 1:13 am }

Just coming up with an imaginary outfit off the top of my head: Brightly colored ankle boots (fold-over detail!) in colors like magenta (a la Mulberry at NYFW) paired with bright opaque tights, black high-waist pleated shorts, and a flowery, chintz-y print silk peasant blouse tucked in.

Throw a long pendant necklace in there for good measure. :)

5 SWEATshirt DRESSshirt { 02.23.10 at 1:19 am }

This is such a cool idea! My favorite piece would have to be the lace top in the second to last row. Although, everything looks amazing! Thanks for sharing this!

We’re heading into Autumn here, so I’m dreaming of scarves and boots and beautiful jeans… all the things that you’re probably tiring of!

Love all the clothes. I think I am very excited about military jackets the most, I think they are great over floral dresses.
Thanks for sharing this with your readers.

Emily,
I know you’ve talked about doing a tutorial again and I would love to see a tutorial on your tousled ponytail. Maybe there’s nothing to it, but I have tried to master it so many times to no avail. Perhaps you have some tips and tricks that would be of use?

17 Jessica { 02.23.10 at 6:07 am }

Lots of wedges, baggy khakis, tiny florals, and bright colors, definitely.

18 lucie { 02.23.10 at 6:29 am }

24 The Lil Bee { 02.23.10 at 7:27 am }

OMG! That is beyond exciting, Em! I love NY Mag’s style section (and the mag, overall). Each of these pieces are so cute. I really like dress on the second row, second from left. The layout makes me want to shrink down my own wardrobe to see how it would compare… I think mine would have a lot of black and gray!

25 freeteyme { 02.23.10 at 7:36 am }

My list is soooo long for Spring! I must have a nice flowy dress in nude colors, high waisted leather bermuda, a bodycon dress in a crazy abstract pattern and a could go on and on and on……

48 Kaila { 02.23.10 at 11:34 am }

Emily-
I absolutely adore your blog and these picks are just fabulous!! My only concern would be that I think you’re definition of “within anyone’s budget” is rather scewed as most average women are unable to drop upwards of $200 on a top or a shorts no matter how cute they are. Please incorporate some lower priced items for us less fortunate next time!!!

49 Chloe { 02.23.10 at 11:37 am }

Wow, cool I will check out your picks for sure! I recently purchased a couple of lingerie/boudoir- inspired tops that I love- definitely into that trend for Spring!

50 Lauren { 02.23.10 at 11:38 am }

52 Rachel (heart of light) { 02.23.10 at 12:01 pm }

Yay! Clicking over to see your picks.

53 Kait { 02.23.10 at 12:53 pm }

I love love love the “Jolly Roger” jacket by Nanette Lapore!
My list for spring is. light flowy dresses, skinny jeans, wide leg trousers, coloured shirts (instead of the blues, greys and black that I keep wearing), flirty skirts, classy heels, gladiator sandals (no more flip flops!). Now to start actually making my closet “grow”.

54 TheIconicBlog.com { 02.23.10 at 1:02 pm }

Great picks! I will definitely be making some purchases. Thanks!

55 ITSOLA { 02.23.10 at 1:28 pm }

Love your choices! I can’t wait for spring to buy a few fun floral/flirty pieces. I envy your recent New York visit and love your gift of blogging. Keep it up and check out my blog, please and thank you.

56 Chris { 02.23.10 at 1:39 pm }

59 Bargain Bex { 02.23.10 at 2:42 pm }

63 SheWearSheShares { 02.23.10 at 3:15 pm }

I would wear the laced top tucked into the paperbag shorts, topped off by the Ali Ro anorak. Such pretty textures to mix together.

64 All Women Stalker { 02.23.10 at 3:30 pm }

Must have list for spring: A floral dress in faded blue and red/pink flowers. I’m sewing it right now :)

65 Lindsay { 02.23.10 at 4:31 pm }

Love your pics! I need to check out that site, too. It looks fab! My picks are BRIGHT colored dresses & shoes to spice up my largely-black wardrobe…..wildly printed dresses/skirts…… and some kick ass flats adorned with stones, rhinestones, or something flashy :)

66 Kim { 02.23.10 at 4:48 pm }

I love your choices! Now, speaking of you, NY Magazine, and Coach — about 10 pages into the current issue of NY Mag (with Christina Hendricks on the cover) there is a Coach ad for the GREATEST SANDALS I HAVE EVER SEEN, and I can’t find them online or anywhere. You have magical powers with Coach. Where are they? Where??

67 Katie { 02.23.10 at 5:08 pm }

Uhhh “with anyones budget” ??? sweetie your waaay wrong. Not just anyone can drop $105 on a SHIRT. Are you kidding?!?!

68 Cafe Fashionista { 02.23.10 at 6:17 pm }

Ohmigosh I LOVE New York Magazine – how exciting, Emily!! :)

69 On The Racks { 02.23.10 at 6:28 pm }

LOVE the Key Lime Anorak by Ali Ro you chose. That would be so perfect here in San Francisco, where even during Spring it’s a little cold & windy. Hmm… I may have to splurge.

My must have is Strappy, Colorful, Heels! I’m so sick of flat boots for the winter. As a side note, I NEED the All Saints Dayta jacket. I just visited their site – thank you for introducing me to an incredible line. The vintage collection = my style.. Love at first click.

Your blog is incredible, I’m spreading the word to anyone who will listen! Thank you for endless fashion, fun, diy, and recipes! <3

74 jel { 02.24.10 at 10:14 am }

im in need of some high waisted shorts paired with a floaty floral cropped top, some scrunched down knee socks and some chunky wedge sandals.

75 annabell { 02.24.10 at 10:27 am }

what an amazing opportunity!! Great picks .. i am definitely into the nude bra

76 Chessa! { 02.24.10 at 6:08 pm }

yay! NY Mag is a daily visit on my computer and a weekly treat in my mailbox. love this new feature! thrilled you’re featured on it!

77 Amanda { 03.04.10 at 10:09 am }

I agree with Katie’s comment above…your average price point in this loot of clothes is $323. That is clearly not within the average person’s ability to spend on one item of clothing. I make 6 figures and can’t afford to drop $300 on one item of clothing. If you could make picks that the average person could truly afford, I think that would be more helpful (average price point <$100).

78 Christine { 03.24.10 at 6:06 pm }

Of course my favorite is the very most expensive item: the Drape-Neck Jacket by Vince. Well, I *am* getting a rather large tax return this year…

79 Cynthia Beard_Stellina*Stellina { 03.30.10 at 5:07 pm }

Love! Great picks. My fav has to be that bra…so adorable~!

80 Kelly { 03.30.10 at 5:30 pm }

i love your choices! i have a few of my own as well. I would like a few new skirts and dresses. I would also like some new spring/summer pants perhaps some cropped ones. I am also in search of a nice spring coat something light weight that can be worn out on the town and not just in the rain. So yes i have quite a list:)

81 Rachel { 03.30.10 at 9:06 pm }

J’adore the v-cut out dress by Funktional. But I think I’m biased… I’m always drawn to anything coral, its such a beautiful, classic colour.
