Cupcakes and Cashmere

Shark Bite Cupcakes

July 17th, 2012

With Shark Week quickly approaching, I’ve been thinking of ways to up the ante for this year’s viewing party. Shark-themed just-about-everything works for me, but I wanted to make a treat that would feel thematic without being so kitschy that it became unappealing. I settled on cupcakes, but with a twist. They’re plain white cupcakes (I used a box mix) in swirl liners, with homemade vanilla buttercream that I dyed blue, dorsal fins made from gum paste, a “bloody” strawberry infused center (using this cupcake corer) and finished with white nonpareils. Not only did they look great all lined up, but the berry middle was such a fun surprise that I could easily see myself making them year-round.

When someone asked me to explain why I felt that your blog reminded me of a female Generation Y ‘American Psycho’….well I went ahead and showed them this post.

    And they immediately understood.

You are a homemaker sociopath who is right up my alley! Keep it up, Patsy Bateman!
