I love my job and for the past (almost) seven years, it's been one of the greatest joys and challenges I've experienced. As our business has grown and the industry has evolved, I've learned that building and running a successful business requires working with exceptional people. We have some lofty and ambitious goals for 2015, including the release of my second book, launching a product line in the fall and most importantly, raising our daughter.

After looking at our upcoming projects and adding a child to the mix, it became clear that we needed more help, so we've expanded our team a little. As many of you know, we brought on our art director, Phoebe, in 2013 and now I'm thrilled to introduce Diana, our new editorial director. They'll be working with me to help create the same great content you've come to expect, while helping to expand the business and brand into new areas. They're both amazingly talented women and I know you're going to love the work we're putting together.

I live in Venice so my favorite spots are Gjusta (which is totally worthy of all the hype), Venice Beach Wines, and Abbot's Pizza for the salad pizza aka best.thing.ever. I also love dancing at the Sweat Spot (Maurice Harris is the best) and grabbing a drink at Bar Stella when I'm on the east side. I would live in the Jenni Kayne store if I could - it's a dream...

How did you get hired at Cupcakes and Cashmere?

Fortuitous timing. After I graduated from college I happened to be looking at my school's (UCLA) job board and saw a posting for a Cupcakes and Cashmere intern. After 2 months of interning I got hired on full-time as the first employee and the rest is history!

Favorite places to go in LA

Your kitchen standby?

I kind of suck at cooking, so my MAIN standby is takeout. But when I'm feeling inspired, my go-to is Balthazar's French Onion Soup, which is easy yet impressive. I can also whip up a mean Negroni or Campari + Soda.

What’s on your playlist?

My boyfriend is a musician so pretty much anything he makes or DJs. I also love Miss Lily's Family Style Mix which is all reggae and any '60s Rock. When in doubt however: put on Kanye.

Favorite thing about working at Cupcakes and Cashmere?

I love the positive and supportive environment. That and the endless supplies of fuel for my sweet tooth (Em's chocolate chip cookies are basically my favorite things in the world).

Diana, Editorial Director

How did you get hired at Cupcakes and Cashmere?

I’ve been an L.A.-based editor for the entirety of my career so Emily and I have had a great working relationship. We clicked right off the bat, and it was always a treat when we would have projects to work on together. Cupcakes and Cashmere is growing leaps and bounds and so when they needed an extra hand, I jumped at the chance to be a part of the growth.

Favorite places to go in LA?

Switzer Falls. A nice, shady trail in the L.A. mountains. Hollywood Lake if I’m not up for driving.

Document Coffee

in Koreatown. It’s ruined all other coffee for me because it’s so good. If you’re ever around the area, get the Document Cold Brew. Life changer. The

Line Hotel

lobby on weekends.

La Cevicheria

for ice-cold Chapin.

Hangari

for chicken noodle soup that can heal whatever ails you.

OK store

 for home goods.

Your kitchen standby?

I’m Korean, and make Korean food a couple of times a week. My husband’s favorite dish is a spicy chicken and potato stew called dakdoritang.

What’s on your playlist?

My mom is a classical oboist who performs professionally. She also happens to love Sinead O’Connor, Leonard Cohen, and MJ so I feel like my taste swings pretty wildly on the pendulum thanks to her influence. Right now it’s The New Basement Tapes. Rhye for long drives. Classical when I write. Podcasts for solo hikes (TED Radio Hour, Unfictional, The Moth, Radiolab, Snap Judgement, Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me). Hip-hop for workouts. Nobody can make me sprint faster than Queen Bey.

Favorite thing about working at Cupcakes and Cashmere?

Coming to work is like coming to hang out with my friends. I feel like I’ve hit the job jackpot. We all love each other and care about each other’s well-being and happiness as much as we care about what we do for a living. There’s never a moment where I feel like the company doesn’t have my best interest at heart for both my career and personal life, too.

Another big benefit is that since we’re such a lean start up-like company, we can shape our days into whatever we’d like them to be. Sometimes we’ll take movie breaks (Jurassic Park, The Exorcist…) or go for “company” walks on a nice day to get a break from the computer screen. Emily and G have fostered a really amazing culture of caring about your job, but remembering to balance it with the other things that make life good.

Lastly, the fact that there are three lovable kitties here makes our office feel zen. They’re like my own personal therapy animals. If I’m having a bad day, a little time with Cali on her cat tower can make me feel infinitely better.
