Salted Caramel Macarons
I can’t think of another dessert that’s quite as adorable as a macaron. There’s just something about the little cookies sandwiched together that creates a bit of magic with each bite. They’re perfect for an afternoon snack (as seen here) and though I’ve made similar cookies (here), I had never attempted to bake up a batch on my own. I’ll preface by saying they weren’t easy and in fact, I think temperamental would be a more accurate description. Regardless, one and a half of my three batches of my fleur de sel caramel macarons (recipe here) turned out flawlessly and I’ll be trying out new variations very soon.

I must admit that I’m totally impressed! Macarons are a sweet that I have been tempted to try out on MANY occasions but have always chicken-ed out at the last minute — literally! But these do look yummy!
Now I feel like going to Paris and visiting Laduree
^^Sorry I meant macaron. I must have macaroons on the brain. =)
Congrats on mastering these! I’d love to try making them one day, but I’m still a bit scared…

I tried to make macaroons once but they are so hard to get perfect. I didn’t leave them to sit on the tray before baking them so they weren’t quite right. I want to try them again though!
Oh my gosh they look SO good!!! You make such yummy looking food!
AWESOME. I love macarons. really really want to try this recipe (i may have to blog about this recipe today and link to you so people can read this)
I love making macarons! Unfortunately these are a little tough to make in the humidity that we’ve been experiencing in NYC, so I’ll have to wait until it cools down a bit to make them again.
i am so jealous- i’ve turned out to be completely useless in the macaron baking department; i can never get them right! you’re are gorgeous.

the salted caramel ones were my favorite ones in Paris… I’ve been too intimidated to make them but maybe I should give it a shot! Yours turned out beautifully. xo
getting the shapes/size correct is so difficult. That is usually my patient hubby’s job. Love the idea of fleu de sel.
Very impressive! I’ve been wanting to whip something these up but when I read all the recipes, I hesitate because there’s so much work involved. They look delish!
Looks delicious! I just finished up a week of dessert-inspired outfits. It would have been fun to base an outfit off of these!
WOW! Apparently they are very difficult to make so nice work! They look delicious.
Yum! Your photos are bringing back memories of France. I spent a spring in Bordeaux a couple years ago, and I always saw beautiful, colorful macarons stacked high in pasty displays in the best shopping areas. Sigh…
I’ve attempted to make these before, with a raspberry buttercream filling. They turned out beautifully until I began slicing them in half for the filling. And then they crumbled, but were still amazingly good.
Wow these are amazing!Going to try the recipe:)
xx
Brilliant. This combines my two favorite things – salted caramel and macaroons. Thanks!
Oh my god. Some people say it’s hard to make..
love anything caramel. yum.

If it’s one pastry I had to choose and could only eat for the rest of my life…it would have to be a macaroon. Aside from tasting like heaven, I think they also look so cute! The different colours always make me smile…I just had a gigantic one the other day, mmm yum.

Still haven’t gotten up the courage to try these. I’m so impressed that you kept going even though half of them didn’t turn out! I’m sure the deliciousness was helping out.
These look divine! And there’s nothing better than salted caramel. Saturday I was at a BBQ and had a 20 minute conversation about salted caramel–it was sort of embarrassing that I had so much to say on the subject.
Always impressed by your baking skills and presentation! These look so delicious!
wow thats great that you managed to do some, I never had the courage to do them because they are so difficult to make
Those look delicious and I love your nail polish

Love macaroons, but I think it’s quite fitting you wrote about them because NPR wrote a cute article about how they’re “the new cupcakes”! http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=123566536
They look really yummy! There’s an amazing salted caramel ice cream recipe on epicurious, my mom makes it all the time. It’s sooooooo good!
oh my gah!! I want one with my coffee right now. Your skills in the kitchen never cease to amaze me. I would love to hear the history of your baking. When did you start, did your mom or family member teach you, etc. Baking just intimidates me!
ahhh my favorite flavor for macarons! these are notoriously tricky to make! these are so pretty…can’t wait for u to try making other flavors:)
These look delicious! Anything salted caramel I’m a big fan of. Bravo for sticking with it

Gosh, i really wanna eat those macrons right now!!! lol
Emily, you did a great job on these – it is difficult to get the right texture in the biscuit and you managed to get them very evenly sized. Amazed these are your first attempt. Love the picture of the rainbow of colors they come in.
I have heard that these are tricky to make – they are on my “to attempt” list. yours look fabulous though!
They look delicious.

That looks delicious, salted caramel macaroons must be the best treat ever?! You’re so talented at baking and cooking, I’m amazed.
wow, you make that looks so easy!
I love macarons, thanks to teach us how to do it so well! =) Looks now, so easy!
OMG delicious! I love how you packaged them in the last shot. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that I’m craving desserts more than ever lately. Funnily enough, with this pregnancy I want cupcakes, whereas last pregnancy was all about ice cream. Macarons fit into category one, so I think I’ll need to cave in soon:)
These look so good! Yum Yum Yum! I love that you somehow managed to get an action shot of a cookie in that second to last picture. Who would have thought!
I once bought the entire shelf of sea salted chocolate at world market, I think this might be my new obsession!!!
my mom would die for these! i may have to surprise her with some.
