Rules of Summer – Part 3

May 10th, 2012

Summer’s just a few weeks away, so it’s only fitting that I’ve already started to think about some of the things I want to do before Labor Day. Since I’m a sucker for a to-do list (you can see past summer checklists here and here), I’ve compiled the ten things I’d most like to accomplish this upcoming season.

1. Visit a pick-your-own-berries farm. Then make this.

2. Try out a shorter hairstyle (something I haven’t done since um, I was five years old).

3. Take a spontaneous weekend trip someplace I’ve never been (I’ve always wanted to go to Montana).

4. Host a backyard oyster shucking + champagne party.

5. Take tennis lessons.

6. String lights in the backyard for impromptu al fresco dining.

7. Take a pasta making class here.

8. Go to a drive-in movie theatre – I never have!

9. Make a gallery wall of photographs in our living room.

10.  Watch fireworks by the water in Sausalito (where I’d go every year as a kid).

I’d love to know – what are you most looking forward to this summer?

I highly recommend going to Montana! I was born and raised in MT and recently moved to Denver and I can’t wait to get back and visit. The Bozeman, Big Sky area is beautiful and there is whitewater rafting, zip lining, hiking and more to do around those areas. Montana also just feels slower paced and relaxed which is really refreshing for a getaway. Oh, one more thing, Flathead Lake is gorgeous and has many fun little towns surrounding it! Kehoe’s Agate shop is a fun little place to scope out. :)

It’s almost winter in Brazil, not too cold but we have fantastics parties in this time of the year with especifics types of food! We love it!
We always visit historical places, cook, read, spend more time inside our home with family and friends. So, it’s really special.

Re: berry picking, next weekend is the annual Strawberry Festival in Oxnard. It’s a little bit of a schlepp but I’ve heard it’s worth it. I don’t think there’s actually berry picking though…

Montana is a great place, you should check out Flathead Lake. It is one of the prettiest places I have ever been to. Rent jet skis and check out the towns. It’d be a great experience!

I look forward to light billowy blouses, backyard barbecues, homemade strawberry lemonade and cucumber water, lounging by the pool, crisp watermelon, and countless trips to the beach. :)

Summer feels like ages away still in London! Before this weekend, it feels like it rained everyday for a month!
So when it eventually arrives I can’t wait to sit in a cafe over looking the Thames and watch the world go by as everyone gets ready for the Queens Jubilee Celebrations!

    Emily,

Let me know if you want to make the Montana visit happen – it is absolutely GLORIOUS here!

Going to a pick-your-own-berries farm sounds incredible. I’ve been once before and I love fresh raspberries during summertime; I swear store-bought just don’t compare. Thanks for the list, you’ve inspired me!

  • Vanessa

Love the to-do list. I’m all over it. I’m about to have a baby so my list won’t be as it normally is, but I’m most looking forward to spending some time at the beach with family.

  • Caitlin

I highly recommend Bozeman! I took a year off from college when deciding majors (and didn’t have the money to travel abroad), and spent my year there, absolutely LOVED it…stunning during the summer…actually, stunning all year round! What the hell am I doing in LA?!? Oh right…the weather!

Strawberry picking was on my summer to-do list too! And now I’ve gone three times already so this recipe will really come in handy.

I love your list. I’m going to include some of those on my list now!

You need to visit MT. My boyfriend and I just moved to Bozeman and it is seriously wonderful. I can’t wait to explore this beautiful state over this summer.

  • Kimarie

You should come to the San Juan Islands! La Conner, Anacortes, Friday Harbor & Roche, and Orcas Island! It’s absolutely beautiful here!

So from the posts of yours that I’ve read (I’ll admit I haven’t read every single one) I’ve come to the conclusion that you either lived in or grew up in Marin for some time. I myself have grown up in Mill Valley and I have to say, I hope you didn’t miss the Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary firework show! I watched it from Sausalito which wasn’t the greatest view but it was definitely a beautiful memory. If you missed it I hope you get to see the next one in 25 yrs! I know I’ll be there.

I was going back through the archives and found your list. Allegiant does a very affordable flight from LA to Missoula, a cute Montana town with a classic downtown area and easy access to as much wilderness as you like.
