Rules of Summer – Part 3

May 10th, 2012

Summer’s just a few weeks away, so it’s only fitting that I’ve already started to think about some of the things I want to do before Labor Day. Since I’m a sucker for a to-do list (you can see past summer checklists here and here), I’ve compiled the ten things I’d most like to accomplish this upcoming season.

1. Visit a pick-your-own-berries farm. Then make this.

2. Try out a shorter hairstyle (something I haven’t done since um, I was five years old).

3. Take a spontaneous weekend trip someplace I’ve never been (I’ve always wanted to go to Montana).

4. Host a backyard oyster shucking + champagne party.

5. Take tennis lessons.

6. String lights in the backyard for impromptu al fresco dining.

7. Take a pasta making class here.

8. Go to a drive-in movie theatre – I never have!

9. Make a gallery wall of photographs in our living room.

10.  Watch fireworks by the water in Sausalito (where I’d go every year as a kid).

I’d love to know – what are you most looking forward to this summer?

    Love it! Also go Glamping!

I will never say no to smores or dinner outside. My own resolution is to try and wear vintage to work. Maybe not too summery, but I think summer’s a perfect time to shake things up a little.

Unfortunately it’s almost winter here in New Zealand. Boo hoo. We had such a cold summer as well. I’m looking forward to wearing my fake fur most of all for winter. As for summer – I can’t wait for it already haha – have bought a summer dress online from the Northern Hemisphere in anticipation.

I’ve been begging my boyfriend to join me on a trip to pick berries at a U-Pick (what they’re named in Florida) but he refuses because he believe they spray pesticides! At this point I am ready to pick random things off bushes. I love the idea of a spontaneous trip…I’m going to NY for a week and as much as I love a trip to the big apple, I can’t help but wonder about all the other cities in the U.S. waiting to be explored.

Sounds like a great list! I’m just looking forward to being able to go out and photograph without worrying about the misty rains that only stop in the summer months. :)

I’m looking forward to having bonfires with our friends, experimenting with kabobs on the grill, and re-landscaping our yard into a wonderful relaxing oasis!

Your list sounds amazing! I hope you get to achieve them all. My family owns a ranch in the mountains of Victor, MT. We visit every summer and it is truly heaven on earth. If you do make the trip try and stay at The Stockfarm Club http://www.stockfarm.com and don’t miss a meal at the most incredible farm to table restaurant I have ever been to. http://www.sleepingchildfarms.com. Hamilton, MT has an amazingly delicious and quirky farmers market every Saturday morning and shouldn’t be missed.
I am a born and raised Cali girl and wouldn’t change where I live for the world but there is nothing like a week in Big Sky country.

Looking forward to a summer trip to my grandparent’s farm in Minnesota. It’s so refreshing to unplug and be in the middle of nowhere for a while. Also, they live near the MI River. Gorgeous scenery and perfect for boating and fishing.

Montana is absolutely beautiful! You should check out the Bozeman area. It’s not called Big Sky for nothing. Nothing beats their thunderstorms and intense sunsets

Very weird… Seriously 7 if the 10 things on this list are on my on going to-do list! Except I just took tennis lessons! Turns out I grunt when I hit the ball. The people in my class would laugh. It helped me hit the ball harder!!

Hey, there! Well, my to-do list is a bit different, since I live in Brazi and what’s coming soon here is my beloved winter ;)
But my biggest wish is to move asap to my brand new apartment with my gorgeous husband, so we can spend sometime in bed, watching movies and drink hot chocolate… Isn’t that wonderful?

Kisses and congradulations for the wonderful site.

Hi There! First, congrats on your wedding. (I’ve never commented, but wanted you to know!). Secondly, I’m getting married in 4 weeks, and I just wanted you to know how promising this post is. I cannot (!) wait to be able to make a to-do list that doesn’t include wedding plans! hah! Not that wedding planning isn’t wonderful, it’s just that I want to have spare time, and eat outside, etc.
I hope you have time to get it all in!

ah! DO go to montana. It’s incredible. There’s always Big Sky, but Missoula’s also a cool town. I swung up there last summer, went to visit a friend in Denver and we road tripped up, passing through Jackson, WY. It was such a great trip… I live in NYC so it was a crazy change of pace.

  • Courtney

I’ve lived in MT my entire life! It would be an amazing summer get-away. fashion sense is always welcome… :) -courtney

I love sitting outside with twinkling lights in summer and making gallery walls is my favorite home project. You will no doubt have tons of gorgeous photos from your wedding and honeymoon to display and bring back beautiful memories.

Otherwise I’m hoping for lots of picnics, trips to the playground and the beach. And a spontaneous trip sounds wonderful.
