Rice Krispies Treats

January 17th, 2012

This past weekend we had a few friends over to watch the Golden Globes (and of course, to indulge in some fun treats). We plowed through a massive cheese platter, drank blood orange mimosas, and ended with a slightly more dignified version of one of my favorite childhood desserts. I made this recipe, which calls for browned butter and a bit of sea salt, and it added such a nice depth to an already near-perfect combination. And so our party didn’t feel too reminiscent of a bake sale, I wrapped up each square in a bit of parchment paper tied with twine and lined them up on a tray for easy access.

I was recently craving rice krispy treats, but found myself without cereal. In a bit of desperation and creativity I used air-popped popcorn in place of rice krispies. Add a touch of toasted coconut and my craving was happily satisfied.

These look delicious! My best friend’s Mum makes these all the time haha, so I’ll have to give this recipe a try and see if they’re better than hers!

Yum I haven’t had one of those in years. One time I made them with Kashi cereal and they came out really good and were much more hearty.

I just made these for a girls night tomorrow evening. I sampled a bit left in the kettle a few minutes ago. It is really good. Didn’t think you could improve on Rice Krispie Treats but these are a bit more elevated. I like the parchment idea too and may have to give it a try.

I tried these today! They were great. I agree that browning the butter and adding sea salt added so much depth to the treat! The only thing I will do differently is the salt. I think it would be amazing sprinkled over the treats rather than mix it in. Alough I know both ways are so good

“hah! depth-my ass, go classic or go home!” was the response my European penfriend gave me when I told her of my new discovery *hint-hint* !your blog! *hint-hint*
Until I shoved one of these in her unworthy pie-hole did she believe me and has made them every Sunday this month!
Long live the humble rice krispie.
