Red Ahead

August 11th, 2008

My weekend:

The process of redecorating a living space that appeals to both my boyfriend and myself has proven to be a less daunting task than I had previously imagined. During the move, when my vintage chandelier was tossed, I was a bit skeptical that our place would resemble an area in which a woman’s presence could be detected, but that’s been far from the case. We’ve known for a while that we wanted to paint the main wall in our living room a deep red, and we finally decided on Ralph Lauren’s Amalfi Red.   Though we’ve still got another coat to finish, I’m floored with the dramatic effect it’s had on the entire room.  Contrary to popular belief, the space actually seems larger and I can’t wait to accessorize with my vintage collection of gold-framed mirrors that survived the move.

    That looks awesome!!!!!!!! Well done. I have always wanted to have a funky red room with a zebra pring ceiling, but I think someday I will have to settle for something more similar to your living room. Good on the boy for agreeing to take a risk like that. I can’t wait to see the rest of the house.

    Great colour and a cool name for a paint colour. Dark colours always make rooms look larger – I think it adds depth and definition.

    I LOVE red + turqouise. I am in the midst of re-doing my bedroom in those shades.

    red = classic. forever.

    looks like a fabulous weekend. redecorating is so therapeutic.

    loves.

    Dear, do you know how much I love it! It is not just décor! That shows your passion and personality! So great! It even reminds me Sex and the City when big got that red wall – beautiful xxxxxxxxxxxx

    You know what? I’m redecorating my room too. It’s already painted, and the main wall is also red! Not the same red as yours… a bit darker, but I love it. Even though damask wallpaper was my initial idea (I couldn’t find anything I liked here).

    FABULOUS girl, simply fabulous!

    It was my one “Must”- had to have either a red front door, or a red entryway. It’s so welcoming and such a bold statement. And your before/after pics show that. Your gold frames are really going to pop off of that wall. Can’t wait to see it all put together =)

    oo lala I love it, what a huge difference! The red is perfect where it isn’t too girly so your BF can feel like its his home too.

    Can’t wait to see the finising touches :)

    being such a girlie girl i was worried when the mr and i finally moved in together. thought it might spell disaster for our 7 year relationship primarily because i assumed our decorating tastes would be pretty disparate. thankfully, they meshed well and helped us both evolve to this very modern chic aesthetic. i was very shabby chic gilded frames before…

    LOVING the wall. what a difference color can make in fashion and home decor. looks amazing!!!

    p.s. remember the satc when big was painting a wall red in his bedroom? classic ;)

    You totally need to publish more pics of your apartment when it is done. It looks really cute so far. It did make me think of the episode of Sex & The City when Big paints the wall above his red. LOL
