As a child, I had a collection of close to a dozen Jelly sandals in candy pinks and shimmery silvers. Little did I realize that my love for this rubbery footwear would remain strong until I spotted these Marni Rubber Buckle Strap Pumps at the Barneys Warehouse sale. The deep raspberry color and contrasting buckle make these almost edible in their appeal and I love the way they slightly glisten in the sun. They’re certainly not the most practical shoes in my closet, but they sure make me the happiest.

I laughed when I read this because I just posted today about the cheap plastics jellies we all wore as kids. If I had only known how far jellies had come since then! Those raspberry jellies are fantastic! But tell me, honestly, do they still make your feet sweat?

I remember jelly shoes. Last summer Target brought out jelly sandals for grownups that looked a lot like the jellies that were so popular in the nineties. But I like these purple Marni jellies even better!

My clearest memory of jelly shoes is from Zimbabwe – we went on a bush walk on a school trip, up some balancing rocks, and one of the girls in my class was wearing high-heeled, transparent, glittery jelly-shoes. Most inappropriate footwear ever. She broke off both heels within about five minutes. They were amazing shoes, though, and I don’t blame her for tottering through the African bush in them!
