Thank you. I live in Newtown, CT and knew many people who lost their children or were survivors. I have two little boys who were in different schools that day in Newtown, and I can’t tell you the fear we had when we heard the words “school shooting”. Running to the schools to collect my kids I was texting, calling, email my friends with kids in Sandy Hook. It was a sad, sad day. There is no way to express what the people in my community are feeling except this: It’s like we are all walking around numb. It’s like nightmare we haven’t woken up from yet. The outpouring of support from all around the world has been overwhelming. It’s inspired many acts of kindness here and all across the country. I am hoping we can move over time from hurt to healing. Our community in Newtown is small and close knit, and we will prevail. This is our home, this is Newtown.

I am overwhelmed with sadness to learn of this unimaginable taking of young lives in their prime. I am grateful for your forum for expression~it will surely help us all to speak up, share, and come together in our incredible grief and sadness for the loss of such innocence.

It’s the littlest things in life that make all the difference. Like Jeremy, I can only think of this heartbreaking news in small doses because it just rocks me to my very core and awakens to many feelings one shouldn’t experience. It feels even more close to me because my roommate and close friends are from Newtown and knew all these affected. So it’s hard hearing about real people there or seeing familiar faces in TV. I myself haven’t felt motivated to write on my own blog this last week, but it makes me appreciate home so much more and excited to see my own family and close friends. Thank you for always sharing happy little moments that can bring us a smile, even if its just for a few minutes.

Hi Emily,
I have been reading your blog for some time now and always enjoy your ideas and inspirations. Thank you for taking the time to recognize what happen to our small state. I live in Groton, CT just a short hour away from Newtown. I was actually down in Staten Island doing some volunteer work for the victims of Hurricane Sandy when the news came through of the shooting. It still does not seem real that something so tragic could happen to so many young children. As we try to move forward I guess we just need to do our best to try to keep the victims memory alive in any way we can. Thank you for your kind words.

Emily-

It is admirable that you took time away from baking and shopping to take note of what happened last week publicly. Surely just because you write a blog about luxuries doesn’t mean you are immune to national and global events of significance. Sometimes the best thing we can do is ask ourselves how we can learn from what we see going on around us instead of staying plugged in to the repetitive commentary we see on all the news stations.

Hi Emily, that is indeed a very serious topic, but can we escape it today, as you underline in your article ? I’m writing from France and everybody talk about this tragedy here too. It is so surreal, how can this happen ? My thoughts go to american people and to the families of the victims.

I come to your blog to read about food and look at pretty pictures and take my mind off of the heaviness of my day (I am an attorney and work with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault), but this has really shaken me. As it has for many.
