When I was a little girl I saw those blossoms for the first time. I shouted out of the window of the car “Daddy! I want one of those!!” He said “Of what?” “Of the most beautiful purple tree I’ve ever seen!! I want to read beneath those!” He told me that they were called Jacarandas. To this day I smile every single time I pass one. I’ve yet to stop and sit underneath one and read a book…. I think I’ll make that a plan!

I think that’s a Jacaranda tree. Over here (in Australia) there is a silly superstition that if a Jacaranda flower falls on you, you’ll fail your exams – and of course exam time is the start of summer, when the flowers are out! I’ve finished now but I do remember getting a bit edgy as my uni was right next door to the Botanical Gardens that had Jacarandas all along the walkways!

It sounds like Sydney. We have lots of Jacaranda trees too and not many blossoms. Must be the warm climate!
