Prosciutto and Brie Sandwich with Fig Jam and Spicy Greens

February 16th, 2011

I have an intense, deep-seated obsession with sandwiches. And I truly don’t discriminate; I’m just as content with peanut butter and jelly on white bread as I am with a turkey club piled high. My main issue is that I fall into ruts when I make them for myself, relying on the same boring flavors time and time again. Instead of the normal mayonnaise/mustard routine, I spiced things up a little yesterday. On one side of a sourdough baguette I spread fig jam, with Brie on the other, and added a few slices of prosciutto and some spicy greens to finish. Each flavor complemented the next and I can’t wait to experiment with even more combinations (next up: Burrata with cherry tomatoes, olive tapenade and sea salt).

Looks fantastic! I am also sandwich-obsessed! I have a hard time ordering them from delis because I’m too particular about how i want mine haha… but this combo looks fab, gotta love a good crusty baguette!

i too am an absolute fanatic when it comes to sandwiches–my boyfriend makes fun of me for “turning everything into a sandwich” (even when i eat nachos, i pile beans and cheese and guac and a jalepeno on one chip, then sandwich it with another chip… i’m weird).

i’m a vegetarian, but i might have to try some incarnation of this with a prosciutto substitution :)

I love sweet and savory combos with brie! Here is one of my favorites: http://lovenestpocket.blogspot.com/2011/01/say-cheese.html
You can switch up the jam fillings, and it’s always a hit at a party.
Also good is sourdough with turkey, brie, and cranberry spread. :)

Where do you purchase ingredients? Are they fresh or do you buy at a local grocery chain? I’m curious because the sandwich looks quite picturesque, which is difficult to achieve!

Mhmmm looks delicious! My mom loves Ina Garten too and recently made a panini for my family was was absolutely delicious! On Ciabatta bread, she put spinach, brie cheese, slices of turkey, and thinly sliced apples or pears. She then put it in the panini grill and it was great! Definitely a must try!
