Popovers with Strawberry Butter
I’m what you’d call a bread addict. Whether we’re talking about a warm, chewy bagel or a loaf of dark pumpernickel, I don’t discriminate. Though they contain no yeast, popovers fall into this category and they’re at the top of my list. For those of you that haven’t bitten into what’s essentially a piece of fluffy air, you’re really missing out. I found the recipe on Orangette (adapted from The Bread Bible), and I must say, I was pretty impressed that they not only rose, but were light and flavorful. To really bring it home, I whipped up some strawberry butter (by beating together 1/2 cup of butter with 1/2 cup strawberry preserves) and it was the perfect touch for an indulgent breakfast.

Have you ever had a Yorkshire pudding? They look just like that, but are made from savoury batter and are typically eaten with a roast dinner.
These take it to another level though, and I think I need to give ‘em a try.

I am obsessed with popovers and have been meaning to get a pan to make them.
There’s a little family owned restaurant that brings out this basket of pastries with dinner and lunch, and they include popovers and strawberry butter. To die for!
Sounds absolutely delicious. I have been on this little baking kick lately, so I think I’ll try these. Thanks for the idea.
they work really well with melted apricot jam and a tad bit of honey brushed on top, too. sort of tangy, yet earthy from the honey. wowza, talk about divine. also a great glaze for palmiers, which i do by taking two boxes of puff pastry dough and placing them atop on another, then rolling the edges in, meeting in the middle. wrap it up, freeze it, then slice, glaze and bake. so simple yet so impressive.
oh my. please feed me.
that sounds creepy.
i just want to eat that. aaaand, everything you make.
that sounds creepy too.
who knew popovers could turn me into such a creepster? geez. i’ll stop now.

I recently made popovers to pair with butternut squash soup, so I wanted to make them less of a breakfast food and more of a dinner food. Right before I took them out of the over, I sprinkled aged asiago cheese on them. It melted and made a crispy, cheesy top layer but didn’t affect the delicate puffiness of the popover.
OMGEEEE Those look delish. If you ever need a full-time taste-tester, contact immediately.
i’m literally dying at the words “strawberry butter”
Strawberry butter…I have never heard of something so divine. I want!!

have you ever thought of investing in a popover tray?? they guarantee domed tops and perfect popovers everytime! martha suggested them and i have been so thankful.
if you can’t find one, she suggests you only use the outside cups of the tray, again, to get perfect dome shapes.
delicious post!
Popovers have been in my family for years. Always what we had when we did brunch but the purist in me loves them only with butter and honey. Next time – try it just with the honey and butter but sometimes I will eat them with a homemade jam as well! I love how much more popular popovers have been getting! I’ve also heard to make them in china teacups if you don’t have a popover pan to get them perfect. Last I heard, Target has popover pans ( in response to Andy’s comment)
i just made a batch of 6! soooo yummmy!
