Pleated Perfection

August 12th, 2008

The clothing store, Martin + Osa, mysteriously appeared at the Century City shopping mall some time ago, yet it was only last week that I truly began to appreciate its feminine, yet structured pieces. After dissecting the September issue of Lucky, I came across a dress that I simply had to have. Though I couldn’t make out the top of it since it was paired with a simple cardigan, I knew it had a classic cut that screamed old Hollywood. Then, like magic, I nearly bumped into a mannequin in Martin + Osa wearing this:

The cut is totally timeless, and with hour-glass shaped rouching in the middle, it’s the perfect canvas for a skinny, patent belt. It’s still too early to wear something made of wool (hello 90° weather), but I’ve gone ahead and dedicated a separate little place in my closet for this dress just so it doesn’t get lonely these next two months.

Really pretty! I was shocked to learn that M&O is related to American Eagle, as the former’s designs are so sophisticated! Great find, darling :)

    Hey!

I just found your blog through Dingo.

    I love that dress!

I have like, oh, I don’t know, a hundred black dresses and I keep buying them. Why do they make all the really cute ones in black?

I noticed this dress in Lucky too and really like it! I was reading your post about LnA t-shirts and wanted to make sure I was understanding their sizing (I hate returning things I order online). So, if I wear a size small at J Crew in t-shirts, I would wear an XS at LnA? I am small on top and I like my tees fitted but not tight. What size would you recommend? Thanks

A savvy gal can’t never have too many black dresses. I am still regreting my decision years ago to let a black Marc Jacob black dress with the most savvy plunging back go. I can’t find anything similar afterward.

Thank you. I wanted to wear the shoes so bad, so that’s how the belt came in to play. Thanks for noticing the detail. :)

Your comments always mean so much to me. I love reading them. And your user name always makes me hungry.. and crave a soft cardigan! lol ;)

I love the idea of a pleated LBD, what a great concept, I enjoyed reading what you said. :)

Thank you for the info about LnA tees. I’ll look at Nordstrom.

can’t wait to see you wearing it. :)
Sometimes you can get really fine wool that is suitable for almost all weather (of course barring above 90..ish).

the model is obviously wearing nothing under the dress or just a singlet maybe.. its a bit misleading isn’t it? if the weather is cold enough to wear that wool dress it wouldn’t be hot enough to go sleeveless?? maybe there’s a matching jacket?

as you said it’s nicely tailored and perfectly pleated.

agreed, that would look great with a skinny patent belt. I think you should add a headband to the ensemble. it would look darling.

i can still wear those wool dresses to work even though it’s august. this damn seattle weather.
