Plans and Pencil Skirts

J.Crew Dress (worn as top), Skirt, and Belt, Vintage Clutch, Alexander McQueen Pumps, Estee Lauder ‘Enchanted Garnet’ Nail Polish

We’ve been engaged for eight months, but it didn’t feel official until this past weekend. We finally found the perfect venue (in Mill Valley!) and I couldn’t be happier. So many things were put on hold until we found the place (like my dress, the vibe, the little details), so it feels like we’re just now starting the planning process. To celebrate, I threw on an outfit that felt ladylike and festive for a meal that was obviously accompanied by champagne.

You seem to use a piece for an alternative purpose fairly often–such as using this dress as a top. I can’t tell that there is a dress under the pencil skirt but feel that if I were to try doing this people would notice. I’m wondering what advice or tips you have on how to make this work?

You crafty girl, you. How’d you get your dress to lay so flat underneath? Very impressive. And I love the yellow. When I got engaged, I waited about four months to pick a venue and then had only six months to plan everything. I loved the pressure…made it feel like shopping for Christmas in November:)

Pencil skirts always was the most classical item. Now it can be a young look, combining with nice belts, cool t-shirts and good shoes and bags, mixing the colors as well.

I just bought that skirt! AND i was wondering what shoes to wear with it. Thanks for the ideas. The only thing is I have to get it altered before I can wear it…it fits in the hips but the waist is too big. I hope it’s an easy alteration.
