Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Just the idea of a bustling airport makes my skin crawl.  The long lines, screaming babies and contagious passengers are enough to make me consider opening a can of Spam in lieu of going home for Thanksgiving turkey.  Luckily, I was able to fly out yesterday and missed all of the holiday bustle.  For those that do have yet to reach your final destinations, I’ve included a few of my favorite items that make traveling that much easier.

1. Indian Jasmine Travel Candle, $12:  Scents are such a nice way to acclimate yourself with a new place and this subtle, floral fragrance burns for 35 hours and won’t weigh down your bag.
2. Pony Hair Luggage Tags, $19.95:  To avoid wrestling with three people that have the same black suitcase, these colorful tags are a chic way to set your bag apart.
3. Travel Alarm Clocks, $13: These miniatures alarm clocks are a cheerful way to keep track of the time, no matter the time zone.
4. Sky Umbrella, $48:  You’ll never regret bringing an umbrella, but the frizzy hair and damp sweaters that await you if you don’t are simply not worth the gamble.  Tibor Kalman’s umbrella reminds you that clear skies are just around the corner.
5. Acrylic Pots, $3.50: I love the versatility of these clear pots that can store anything from loose earrings to an extra supply of Advil.
6. Altec Lansing inMotion Portable Audio System for iPod, $119.99:  There’s nothing better than listening to your own playlist when you’re away from home (this system was rated the best on CNET for travel MP3 speaker systems).
7. Travel Sleep Mask, $19.95: One of the more disturbing revelations while on vacation is to find that your room floods with light in the morning.  This silk, pucci-inspired mask is easy to slip in your bag and will provide hours of restful sleep.
8. Patent Ballet Flats, $17.50: These ballet flats are not only sleek and uber-comfortable, but they can also be folded up and thrown in a purse for those times you may not last the night propped up in 4 inch heels.

What are your travel necessities?

I love the travel posts!!!

I cannot travel without some moisturizer- my skin gets so dry when I fly…

And a throw/blanket/warm socks, something to keep me warm during long, long flights.

Thanks for posting, I always love your travel ideas!!

DO you have the flats? I bought them in gold, and they were awfully stiff and anything but comfortable! :( They were so cute and such a nice price though, it was a big dissapointment.

1, 7 and 8 in my book are probably the three things that help me survive traveling. Great picks!

11 please sir { 11.24.08 at 12:34 pm }

Great picks – I always bring chapstick and a good tube of lotion for dry hands…especially now in the cold!

oh gosh!
i travel for 2 days straight –24 hours in the air- there and back so i try to keep my carry-ons light. BUT it NEVER happens-especially on the way back.

A must for long-hauls.
a comfy blanket + neck/blow-up pillow.
eye-mask
socks ( although i usually wear the ones they give)
ear plugs + a sleeping pill !

enjoy your time with the family.
x.

Wine – and a skirt or dress – pants are just too binding!

And little samples of face/eye creams I like to slather on my face.

Stop by my blog for your chance to win some of the said samples – great for just trying out and makes you feel just a tiny bit pampered!

15 The City Sage { 11.24.08 at 2:25 pm }

Oooh shudder, holiday travel! I never seem to escape unscathed…the worst is when they confiscate my precious cosmetics no matter how hard I try to comply with airline regulations!

And is it just me, or do you step off the plane feeling as dry as if you spent a month in the desert?

for short flights, as in under 6 hours, i would just need comfy track suit and cloth slipper and lots of water. for long haul flights, as in 10+ hours, i would have all the above from short flights and la mer cream, facial mask (those disposal cloth), and my own snacks if i am not traveling business/first class.

17 Dallas { 11.24.08 at 5:09 pm }
