Perfectly Polished
Every once in a while, I’ll create a nail color combination that’s too good not to share. Currently on my fingers: OPI’s “Lincoln Park After Dark” with Deborah Lippmann’s “Ruby Red Slippers.” It’s a bit moody, slightly ominous and morphs from a color that’s black at night to a deep, shimmery red during the day. In other words, the perfect polish for fall.

ooh! I LOVE! This is gorgeous!
Love it!
I used to love mixing colors when I was younger. I can’t believe I’ve forgotten about what a great outcome it can be! I’m still stuck in my summer shades, but I’m hoping to find that perfect fall color soon!

That is the coolest color combo I have ever seen!! Thanks for sharing!

We are so on the same page! I have both of these polishes and thought of experimenting like this. I had to put on like, 4 layers of the Lippmann color alone to get a consistent glaze of color. The Lincoln Park base is a perfect solution;)
Vampy! Perfect for fall. You are so much more daring than I. I am looking at my pale pink nails right now. Haha
That is a gorgeous combination! I especially love the glittery part of it. Yet again, your posts never cease to inspire me.

Completely genius. Thank you for sharing! I need to remember to fine colors I like and bring them in for my manis, since the selection is often bare bones at my place. I miss the city, where there are so many more colors and trends.
LOVE this!
Wow! WHAT a perfect combo!

i’ve been looking for something different for my nails, I love this combination.
Ooooh pretty! On a little side note- I braved replicating one of your recipes last night! The lemon ricotta pancakes looked too good to pass up- and I’m so glad I went for it. Definitely not as pretty as yours (I always end up browning the butter), but delicious for dinner and breakfast this morning! Thanks, Emily
Love the sparkles…thanks for sharing!

Oooo Lincoln Park After Park is one of my favorite color of all time, especially for fall/winter. This is such a great color combo – totally Poison Apple:) Have a great Labor Day weekend! xo
DANG! You really are good at painting your own nails! You weren’t lying!! Love the color.

I love the color but more than anything I love that your nails look so perfect. When I paint my own, it looks like a two year old doodled all over my hands with nail polish.
Oh that is cute!!! I love that!
love the new mix…what a great color…

Wow, those look fantastic together. Now I’ll be seeking out a dark, glittery polish to layer. Also, try out OPI Ink. It’s a purpley-blue color; so pretty for fall.
That is spot on. You hit that one out of the park.

I’m LOVING it! Gives such a spicy feeling, and look!
wow! i am going to start doing this! We mix and match clothes…why not polish?! love!

I never thought about mixing nail polishes. Me likes. I think it would remind me of being in art class when I was little. It could be totally fun, but it could be a messy disaster. Maybe you should come out with your own lines of nail polishes. =)
Celebrity Fashion – Need it? Want it? Crave it?
Wow. That looks amazing! I’m speechless.
Wow, it looks great! I like to mix polishes too, but they never turn out that good. I am glad you shared. x

Hello, Emily! I am a huge fan of your website. Really, you’re amazing! I love to read what you write, and you always help me with something indirectly. I would really really apreciate if you answered this question. Well, you eat everything you like. And it’s so amazing that you are beautiful and thin. Do you exercise often and have a diet program? Because I’m gaining weight, and I’m really unhappy with my current body =( I don’t know, I just feel depressed for not being fit. Would you advise me to do something? Thank you, thank you very much! Kisses
love! just bought a purple glitter and a copper glitter color at whole foods and was thinking about what to layer it with… thanks for the inspiration!

That is actually pretty funny that you posted that because, I literally painted my nails almost the same combination last night. I have an old brick-ish red from a while ago and a sally hansen red glitter polish that I layered. I agree with you; it is definately a great combo for fall. Check out my blog: frillsandfurbelows.blogspot.com
Love the combo…I also love Lippmann but at $18 a bottle it gets a littttllleee pricey
BEE
http://www.atlantic-pacific.blogspot.com
Clever. Did you apply the OPI first, let it dry, then apply the red glitter? Good way of toning the red down .
Such a great color! Sparkles by themselves are a little too much for me, but on top of the dark color, they look great.
The color would look great with any fall outfit and for some reason, I see it looking awesome against a khaki, army-inspired coat.
I picked some “army boots” on my blog: http://www.sistersay.wordpress.com What do you think?
wow, it looks like a professional marbling job or whatever they call it. nice work.
EMILY, i know you get a ton of links and comments but i’d love you to check out my newborn:

wooow…i love it…
Gorgeous! I’ve been looking for Lincoln Park after Dark for almost a month, and everywhere I look is sold out. This is pushing me to finally purchase it online!! Quick question: did you layer these polishes to achieve this look, or add the LPAD to the other? The negative space looks a little darker in the second picture of Ruby Red Slippers, so I wasn’t sure. Thanks for sharing!!
I like it! I’m curious to see what the DL color looks like all by itself. It’s very intimidating!!
love it – I’ve never mixed polish before, def be giving it a go after seeing this. really amazing original colour
Never thought of doing this, great idea! Lovely blog!
http://betweenmargins.blogspot.com
Nice combo! Are you going to NY fashion week? Maybe I will see you there? Love
I love this combo! I’m still into some of the bright colors, I can’t get away from them yet especially since its still so hot where I live! But I def want to try this when fall really starts to happen!
So goth!
great nail polish!
this looks awesome! my polish combinations never turn out this well. haha

love it – manicure monday is back tomorrow on my blog!
Your blog is so great! Loved the tips on how to start one. The nail polish is really cute, wish I could paint my nails! Unfortunately, I have to keep polish remover and cotton balls on hand at all times. It usually takes about 4 or 5 re-dos.

This makes me want 2 things, no 3 things.
1. For it to be halloween NOW! It’s a perfect festive color combo.
2. A cherry coke in my hand – the colors just scream sparkle and fizz to me!
3. To have a cocktail party to go to wearing it – it’s festive but also very classy! Well done girl!

http://parenthesized.tumblr.com/post/1181541928/diy-les-khakis-de-chanel-nail-polish-want-to
I love these colours together, I have been doing this for about 6 months and I love it. I use Black Cherry Chutney by OPI as the dark colour and a drug store red glitter over the top. I get so many comments when I do my nails like this but I don’t think I can get away doing it for the summer (Im in New Zealand so we are about to have summer).
I had no idea you could mix nail polishes! I tried to look up a tutorial and couldn’t find anything! How did you do it Emily?
STUNNING combo
