Cupcakes and Cashmere

Coconut Nest Cupcakes

April 3rd, 2012

The arrival of Easter candy in stores is worth celebrating – Cadbury Creme Eggs, chocolate bunnies, and my personal favorite: Robin Eggs. Of course they’re simply Whoppers dressed in pastels, but for some reason, that makes them taste that much better. I wanted to incorporate them into some sort of dessert, so when I came across these vanilla cupcakes (with a toasted coconut “nest”), I knew I had found a winner. And though the buttermilk and egg-laden cake tasted great, I would have been just as happy to save the time by using a store-bought mix with homemade frosting.

Desert Bike Ride

April 2nd, 2012

Vintage Scarf, Karen Walker Sunglasses, Zara Blouse, Nixon Watch, Maje Belt, J.Crew Pants, Chanel Flats, Essie ‘Cute as a Button’ Nail Polish

This past Saturday was so dreary that we spontaneously decided to throw some things in the car and head out to the desert. We were greeted with warm weather, cheap Mexican food, and insane vintage finds (that I’ll share later this week). It was just the daytime escape we needed and as an added bonus, I faced my (pathetic) fear of getting back on a bike. The last time I rode was when I was in elementary school – and I came home without any scrapes or scratches, despite some serious swerving.

Five Things

March 30th, 2012

{A pretty gift: a heart vase that now lives on our bookshelf}

I spent most of this week in Mill Valley with my parents finishing up last minute wedding details and attending meetings in the city. We ate at some of my favorite restaurants (including Zuni Cafe) and hunkered down inside during less than stellar weather. It’ll be nice to get back to L.A. this afternoon just in time for a weekend that includes The Hunger Games, more errands than I’d like to think about, and some quality time spent at home.

Seasonal Spin

March 29th, 2012

{Voluminous sleeves + hair + white-rimmed eyes}

Though it’s technically spring, we’ve been experiencing some truly conflicted weather in California as of late. One week will be blistering and the next is met with dark clouds and severe winds. Since the climate changes are a bit difficult to embrace, I’ve pulled together a few looks that are currently inspiring me in regards to beauty and fashion (with options suitable for all kinds of temperatures).

{White button-down + scarf + sexy hair}

{Unexpected color combinations: navy + lilac}

{Middle part + dark crimson lip}

{Coral-colored accessories + oversized watch}

{Beachy waves + thick knit}

{Loose top knot + dainty necklace + floaty dress}

{Pink coat (of my dreams) + metallic heels}
