Scalloped Lilac

There are certain items that when I come across in a store, I simply can’t leave without them. Those things include, but aren’t limited to – striped tops, gummy candy, and anything with a scalloped edge. This blouse not only has the ideal collar, but the pastel lilac color really brings it home. I wore it with my favorite cardigan out for coffee before the temperatures reached the 80s by mid afternoon yesterday. This current L.A. heatwave is no joke.

DIY Jeweled Clutch

October 3rd, 2012

A couple of weeks back at H&M I found a cute geometric clutch that was close to perfect – all for $24.95. The one problem was the color (a shimmery, mermaid-blue). I felt like it had so much potential though, so I scooped it up and brought it home. Since all of the clutches I own are simple and plain, I decided to change up the look to make it a bit glitzier. I simply painted it a few coats of white paint and secured some strategically placed acrylic rhinestones with craft glue. I love the clean new look and think it’ll make for a great complement to an understated nighttime look.

Deep-Dish Pumpkin-Meringue Pie

October 2nd, 2012

Pumpkin is one of those foods that seems to be so ubiquitous in seasonal products (lattes, candles, body lotions), that I tend to get a little burned out by the end of fall. But pumpkin pie is always a welcome dessert in our home and it seemed like the perfect way to kick off October. The toasted topping provided a slight nutty flavor that complemented the sweet filling (and also made for a stunning presentation with nearly half a foot of meringue).

Emerald Versatility

It’s not often that I come across a dress that’s so versatile that it can easily transition from a meeting, to an event (I wore this for my New York book signing), and then out to dinner. I love the deep jewel color of this one with its subtle nod to this season’s obsession with peplum.
