Chocolate Éclairs

February 5th, 2013

Growing up in a small town like Mill Valley, there was only one bakery. It was warm inside, with yellow-speckled floors and pictures of customers covering the walls. Of course my main goal as a kid was to have my photograph included, but apparently we never visited regularly enough. It’s been gone for years, but I still remember the first time I saw a chocolate éclair. They looked like glistening jewels and were far more sophisticated than the pink sprinkled donuts that I usually chose. Little did I know that they were also filled with a rich custardy middle or I would have made the switch years before. I’ve now had my fair share of chocolate éclairs – and know just how special they are. On a particularly cold day this past week, I made this recipe. They were spectacular and I’ve decided to continue to make them from now on, as a subtle nod to a cherished childhood memory.

Buttoned with a Brooch

February 4th, 2013

brooch1

Celine Sunglasses, Equipment Blouse c/o, Vintage Brooch, Rag & Bone Jeans, Costume National Heels, Alexandra Declaris Clutch

I had the flu over two weeks ago, but it wasn’t until yesterday that I finally started to feel more like myself. I still have a gnarly cough, but it was no small success that I was able to squeeze in a trip to the farmers’ market, the car wash, and out for high tea at the Montage with friends (my annual tradition during the Super Bowl), without feeling like I needed a 4-hour nap. It’s good to be on the road to recovery – at the very least to have the energy to put my hair up in an actual style and wear heels for an extended period of time.

Five Things

February 1st, 2013

coveteur

{I was thrilled to be featured on The Coveteur this week. Check it out here.}

I’m not sure how January is already over, but I’m ready to welcome February with open arms. It’s always such an awkward transitional time in the beginning of the year – and now I feel like I can start planning fun things to look forward to (mainly a one-year anniversary trip to Mexico this April). The days are staying light slightly longer, we’ve dusted off our barbecue and springtime doesn’t feel too far away. Have a wonderful weekend!

cat tower

{The Downton Abbey of cat towers – hopefully it’ll dissuade them from scratching up our furniture}

valentines day

{Valentine’s Day candies that taste even better when corralled into a cute tin}

{A flea market skull that now has a temporary home in our candle-filled fireplace}

I’m not much of a football fan, but I can definitely get behind Super Bowl snacks and of course, the Beyonce halftime show. For those of you going to a party or just looking to eat some good food, here are some of my favorite snacks that would be perfect for this Sunday.
