Orange-Flavored Almond Biscotti

April 28th, 2010

I can say with complete honesty that I have never been a fan of biscotti.  It always seems like something you eat when there’s nothing else available and you’re simply settling for a stale cookie.   I had never even thought about how they were made until I considered making some from scratch after seeing this recipe.  Turns out, they’re twice-baked (which makes them seem extra special) and when they’re homemade, there’s quite a difference.  They’re crunchy, but full of flavor and the hint of orange makes them the perfect complement to cup of tea in the afternoon.

  12. I’ve never been a fan of biscotti, but AM a huge fan of its distant Jewish cousin, Mandel bread. I make the most delicious chocolate chip kind and the recipe was passed down from my best friend’s grandma. I could go for it now…

  21. Looks ‘yummy’! Like to try some! ^^

  22. I shared your sentiment over biscotti seeming like a stale cookie until I started making them myself. They’re much more palatable homemade…

These look great-I love anything with orange.

  23. These look great! I love anything with an almond flavor.

  24. These look very healthy, too. But unfortunately, not eco-friendly, since it’s twice-baked. Shouldn’t we just settle with something just as delicious but less energy-consuming?

  25. Ah! Now I’m hungry :)

  26. I live near Prato, Italy, the town where biscotti were invented. You should definitely try the Antonio Mattei brand, they’re the best, and the original ones! love them! in my shop in Florence, we sell about 20 kg a day, so I guess lots of people love them!

  27. ive never been a fan of any biscotti other then my grand mothers… she always makes chocolate with hazelnuts and drizzles some melted chocolate on them… the best..
