Open Road
Today we got up before dawn and piled all of our luggage, snacks, blankets and gifts into the car and headed North. Since I’m pretty bad at sitting still for long periods of time, I thought I’d follow Kristin‘s lead and write down 100 25 (sorry, technical error erased the other 75 after Christmas) things about me to help pass the time.
25 Things About Me:
1. When I was four, I bit my best friend’s finger after we couldn’t come to a conclusion about the color of the ocean. I was sent home briefly thereafter.
2. I’m an only child [see number 1].
3. Breakfast is my favorite meal (especially if there’s lots of syrup involved).
4. I get grossed out when people drink milk with their dinner.
5. I was born on my exact due date. I’m still prompt to this day.
6. When I turned 18, I secretly got my belly button pierced. I told my parents later that afternoon.
7. I love the process of making a mix CD for someone. I always start out with an upbeat, fantastic song.
8. I had to wear a retainer in 2nd grade that gave me a lisp and landed me in speech therapy.
9. I could eat sushi every. single. day.
10. I’m not afraid of the dark, but absolutely every closet or drawer must be completely closed before I can fall asleep.
11. I get overly excited when peppermint ice cream arrives for the holidays.
12. One time when I was little, I pretended to choke just to see if my mom really knew the Heimlich Maneuver. Turns out, she did. I spent the rest of the night locked in my room.
13. I have the worst eye for spotting toupees.
14. New Year’s Eve is my least favorite holiday. This year though, I can’t wait to stay in with my boyfriend and make this and drink lots of this.
15. Wheat Thins are the best when they’re slightly burnt.
16. I was a total tomboy as a child. Now you’ll have a hard time finding me in something other than a dress or a skirt.
17. I don’t like the taste of water.
18. “Happiness is a Warm Gun” is my favorite Beatles song.
19. I hate when people answer a question by saying, ‘well, yes and no.’ Just pick one.
20. My first day out of college, I landed a job working for my two favorite magazines: Domino and Teen Vogue (I was on the first season of The Hills).
21. I love making lists. At times, I’ll even add something I’ve already done just so I can cross it off.
22. I think I have a learning disability when it comes to my sense of direction.
23. Rain is great, but only when I can be inside with no plans to leave.
24. Some of my pet peeves include whistling, gum smacking and bad grammar.
25. When I was little, I trimmed my cat’s whiskers. She wobbled when she walked for a good two weeks.
Sorry that the rest of the list was cut off…I swear the last 75 were the best ones! Thank you for all of your endless support and here’s to a spectacular 2009.
xxx
Emily

Thanks for sharing! I also love horror movies, even though I get scared for weeks at a time! Have a wonderful Christmas!
Thanks for sharing with us, it was so interesting to read and learn more about you! You made me laugh so hard (when you mentioned you once trimmed your cat’s whiskers- I did that too!), and I also have so many of the same quirks. Your friends are lucky to have you around, you sound like a sweet and funny girl.
Happy Holidays Emily xx
We have a fair few things in common! While I was reading through your list I thought, ‘Oh thank goodness I’m not the only one!’ .
(Aviators only sunglasses that look good, tomboy when you were little – now love dresses/skirts, mix cd process, milk at dinner…and more!)
Thanks for sharing it all! Hope you have a great Christmas and an excellent New Year – keep up the great blog.
* I love making lists. At times, I’ll even add something I’ve already done just so I can cross it off.
* I think I have a learning disability when it comes to my sense of direction.
* I love the rain, but only when I can be inside with no plans to leave.
* I always notice when a movie has a good soundtrack.
– I agree with all of these! And I love ‘Twilight’ – even though I’ve only seen the movie, I have all 4 books for Christmas to read and I am ridiculously excited! (I am 22 next month – there is no hope!)
I just wanted to comment as I read your blog often, and love coming back to see that you’ve created another great post! I really enjoyed this one, and I may steal your idea and do 100 things… on my blog!
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
Happy Holidays xxx
you are such a beauty emily
we have so much in common!
i love that you are always smiling!!!
have the most beautiful christmas.
xx.
I love this list. I also miss Arrested Development. It would make my new year shiny and bright if they would bring it back and if people would stop drinking milk with dinner. Gross.
Happy Holidays!
Your Wonder Years crush cracks me up! He was so mean to Kevin; but wasn’t his name Wayne? I think my crush was Kirk Cameron on Growing Pains… or maybe JT on Step by Step.
Oh my goodness I am so jealous you got a magazine job right out of college I graduated in May and want a job at a magazine more than anything too bad I live in Michigan and will never get one :[
Emily! I just love your blog, and I adore this little list. I may steal the idea and put it up on my page!! Have a wonderful Christmas!
#12 is hilarious!!
So your mom really appreciated that pop quiz on the Heimlich, eh?
Emily this is great! I bet you had so much fun doing this. I feel like I really know you now.
I want to do something similar on my blog now!
Love love love this list, it cracked me up! am tempted to do my own over the holidays….!! merry christmas xx
i’m a taurus too (may 7!) and i read that entire webpage. under attributes, i think almost everyone of those applies to me. weird. plus, i just lovve being called an Aphrodite.
Wow, great list! I will have to go back and read every single one of them.
In the meantime, have a very merry Christmas!

i also hate gum snapping!
teen vogue!
i was going to ask if u worked there coz a girl who i think is at the fornt desk looked like you… im now persuming it is?!! oh yeah off the HILLS episodes lol
So when I read this “12. One time when I was little, I pretended to choke just to see if my mom really knew the Heimlich Maneuver. Turns out, she did. I spent the rest of the night locked in my room.” I don’t know why, but I died laughing.
“63. When I go to 7-11, I mix the cherry with the cola to make the perfect Slurpee mix.” — I do the same exact thing.
I love your blog.
xoxo,
Yvonne
I almost peed my pants laughing on some of those.
merry christmas and have a great trip!!
The slightly burnt wheat thins ARE the best! How funny … you do that, too.
So many of these things I do without even thinking about it (visiting every aisle at the grocery store, liking the sound of high heels, loving leftovers, closing drawers so I can go to sleep). Merry Christmas, and thanks for sharing. xoxo
I drop by your blog sometimes because I think you have great fashion sense and love to see what you mix together… plus as you mentioned you actually look like you like to blog unlike some others lol.
i loved arrested development. i watch all three seasons religiously and i heard theres a movie coming out!! i also do the lists thing.
merry christmas!
You trimmed your cat’s whiskers? That’s fantastic, I actually smiled whilst reading that.

These are so funny! Great list!
I just loved reading this. Great list!
Kindergarden
Love the photo and the wonderful list. I agree with the cell phone rings, I still use the basic ring too.
Happy Holidays.
“I was born on my exact due date. I’m still prompt to this day.”
So was I… and I still am (prompt) that is.
Happy to share another similarity with you, Emily.
Merry Christmas and a Happy HOliday! x
teen vogue?!?! You’re too lucky!
What about milk at lunch?
OMG what does it feel like to land a job at Vogue ? what di you do in particular there ? xx
Aw, thank you Emily.
I adore that she is a companion dog, following me everywhere I go. I hope your New Year’s Eve is delightful, dear!
xx
you’re really interesting! i want to know more about why you and your friend couldn’t decide on the color of the ocean. did she say it was blue and you said it was green? it’s a deep bluegreen and when it is stormy a deep slate blue.
oh man, so did you go to work for BOTH domino and teen vogue? or did you have to choose one? your life seems so much more interesting than mine. but i think everyone’s life is more interesting than mine.
Wow, I must really like you, cause I read through all of ‘em! I was at GQ when they shot in NYC across the hall at Teen Vogue. But I never made it on film. Le sigh. xx Happy holidays, cutie!
haha so fun to read ^-^
So, I stole your idea and I just wanted to say thank you so very much. Hope you had a very happy holiday!!
Hey girly,
I absolutely love your blog! I haven’t been on it in forever, but I’m glad I did tonight. So many interesting reads! Your a must on my bookmarks! Happy Holidays!
I had to crack up at number 11. Barry Zito what were you thinking???!
Thanks for sharing! Number one is hilarious. I also have a terrible memory.
re: #20 … oh really? you lucky duck!
You’re adorable. My husband’s fantastic list making tricks? Title your list a “Ta-da” list so that when you’ve finished it, you can say, TA DA! And always make item number one “make list” so you can cross something off right away.
Such a fun list!
watch out for that Jeremy Piven-like, sushi mercury poisoning!
These are so delightful
I think you used your time perfectly!
I’m a Taurus too! May 4th!! woot woot.
Oh but fellow loyal Taurean, you just MUST give Pixar a try-why there’s Finding Nemo and Wall-E……..
too cute!
ha! love the list, we are similar in many ways (ditto on numbers 2, 5, 9, 14, 15, 19!, 21 (a total addiction) and 27 (my feet turn purple when I write blog posts). Happy Holidays to you!!
Beautiful list. You were on the hills? very cool.
xo, a
such an entertaining list! i love the beatles, too. and as much as i blog about it, i secretly hate new year’s eve! shhhh
haha, care to trade links?
xx
emma from youngandinstyle
quirky and fun…I like you even more than I did before…xo t
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
Oooh The Hills? Love the choice of photo too.
this list was so much fun! i really enjoyed reading all the funny & quirky things about you
all the best to you in the new year emily!
I thought I was the only person in the worls suffering from nr.10! But I’m afraid of the dark…
I also despise new year’s eve… i think there should be a curfew and everyone must go home by 10 and be with their loved ones and not pay outrageous prices for tickets to a lame party!
Aaaaand, which Hills episode is it?? Is it easy to spot you? I’m definitely watching season one on demand again one day just to check! Too exciting!
I expected a blog about food and a lot of recipes…because of the blog title.:P
What did you study?
Happy New Year.
this is such a great list. i love that you bit your friend and make lists with things you’ve already done to cross off. i do that too. best feeling ever.
happy new year!
you might know jesse then! he interned at teen vogue and also came out on the hill’s 1st season. he’s my sister’s classmate/friend.
these facts are too cute!
cute. i definitely have your affinity for lists.

Even though this is an old post (for me), I love it. My fave ones? The one where you wanted to see if your mom knew the Heimlich Maneuver, adding something you’ve already done to a to-do list (I do the same thing), and your sense of direction
Love your list. We’re both only childs! Yay for only children…
