Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
October 20th, 2009
The “Joy of Cooking” cookbook has been a staple in my parents’ kitchen for as long as I can remember. It holds many of my favorite recipes, including one of the best oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever tasted (recipe here. Just substitute 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips for the raisins) . They have a slight crunch when you first bite into them with a gooey center that’s bursting with chocolate and oatmeal flakes. I made a batch last weekend from my own “Joy of Cooking” that my dad gave me for Christmas a few years back. Almost as special as the recipe itself is the inscription my dad wrote inside the front cover that I read every time I open the book (pictured below).

WOW, yes, those cookies look incredible, but that note from your dad is truly inspirational. Amazing!

I love the twist on the traditional oatmeal cookies, sounds like a baking project that I will have to try soon! Sentimental notes from dads melt my heart…so sweet.

Ha, chocolate chips are better than raisins any day. The little note from your dad is so sweet!

yum! I love making these. Also, I always add about 1/3 cup of coconut, and it makes them SO GOOD! i highly recommend it
Yum! Totally making these–asap! xo
Yum! Looks delicious! Thanks for sharing this recipe. I can’t wait to try them out. Oatmeat choc chip cookies are the best, aren’t they?
Not being a baker, this may be a silly question: Do you bake the cookies on the actual paper? Is it wax paper or something?
Who doesn’t love The Joy of Cooking? These cookies look so delicious… I can almost TASTE them!
My favorite cookie.
They look delicious. I want one!
Wow! Your dad’s handwriting is IDENTICAL to my dad’s.
PS- I adore your blog, I’ve been reading it from the end all day for two days straight and I’m here now… Who needs work?
I stumbled across your blog a few days ago, these looked so yummy, so tried to create them today – however not sure what went wrong but they looked nothing like yours!!!
I made these last night, but with butterscotch chips instead of chocolate – they are awesome!! Thanks for sharing this delicious recipe!!
