Mermaid Nails

June 21st, 2011

For our trip to Costa Rica, I wanted fun nails that had an almost tropical vibe. I went back to Marie Nails (where I got this glittery combination) and got a bright tangerine color with graduated gold sparkles on just my ring fingers (which you can see here). It felt just festive enough and I couldn’t wait to try out different combinations. Luckily my friend Marta was up for the challenge and let me paint her nails a pale greenish blue with aquamarine-colored glitter. It’s quickly become my new favorite way to add a bit of sparkle to plain polish.

{Essie’s Mint Candy Apple & Martha Stewart’s Aquamarine Glitter}

{Paint two coats of the nail polish}

{Add top coat along the bottom half of the nail}

{Dip a separate brush into top coat and then into the glitter}

{Apply glitter to the bottom half of your nail}

{End result}

  24. Thanks for posting! I showed my fiance and he surprised me with the 24 pack of Martha glitter and the polish. And you inspired my own nail creation! http://poshpurpose.blogspot.com/2011/10/thrifty-thursday-glitter-nails-skip.html

  25. One major warning when doing glitter nails.. You should really use Cosmetic grade glitter. Regular craft glitter has crushed glass in it. I really wouldnt to scratch your face with that.

  26. I googled ombre nails and found this post. Mind you, I already love this blog. I’m going to try this tomorrow on my nails!

  27. I love this nail look. Should be easy for me too because I already have that Essie shade. With the rate of all the new styles, I may have new nails every year in 2012! :) I get a lot of good ideas at: http://www.taaz.com/trends/trends.html as well.

  28. I’ll be sure to get sparkles in my eyeball int heprocess

  35. I am in the middle (literally!only left hand is done) of doing my version of this. I love it! I did purple nails and the glittery accent nail was gold glitter over purple instead of white or something. Love it!!

  36. These are GORGEOUS! I am late to the party but only just seen these and OH MY GOD they are so nice. I would be too scared to have my nails nice in case I chip them on my STEERING WHEEL.

  37. Love this! But I would try like a lavender as the base and a light pink for glitter.

  38. I have a very similar tutorial just this weekend. 2 simple ways to a gorgeous glitter gradient xx http://www.cherrysuedointhedo.com/2012/04/2-simple-ways-to-gorgeous-glitter.html
