Maple-Oatmeal Scones

August 16th, 2011

Most mornings I eat a simple breakfast – cereal, toast, or the occasional egg. But sometimes I crave something that truly satisfies, in a way that warms me from the inside out. I always get nostalgic around this time of year. I’m reminded of my childhood, when the last days of summer felt so bittersweet and the changing leaves and impending cold lurked around the corner. This year’s no different, even if there are no textbooks to be purchased; I can’t wait for fall.

Food embodies those moments more eloquently than words, which is why I baked these maple-oatmeal scones this past weekend. They’re certainly not as healthy as one would imagine, but served warm with a cup of coffee, they’re an indulgent way to savor the changing days from summer to fall.

Two other favorite scone recipes here and here.

Yum! Definitely indulgent, but perfect for the autumn, cold months to come. Maple treats are my favorite.

beautiful illustration and I’m making these tomorrow as I have all the essentials. I watch Rachel Ray and she has been pretty inspiring with her easier ideas since I cannot afford to buy all the recipe ingredients for some of the fun stuff I’d like to make. But scones! Scones are so full of essential life and history, all in warm linen cloth. Comfort food without all the bad stuff.

Thank you for your sweet blog. Ive suffered low grade depression since an auto accident 5 yrs ago and your site has really demonstrated the many facets of life that I forget unless I can see them and feel them–as in your beautiful photography. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing and hearing a lot more from you. And you deserve it. We deserve it! We women are always needing inspiration as we are so overworked and so multi expected : )
